I watched it this morning, best thing was beating Serena in her home country after Serena threw a hissy fit at the umpire in the second set.

Serena served and delayed the grunt till the ball was in Sam's half, then yelled out a delayed grunt which is against the rules

she was penalised a serve/set so Sam got 2 serves in a row and Serena just flamed the umpire and kept giving it to her in the break, luck she wasn't removed from the court

after the game she said she wasn't aware it was outside the rules but still from where I sit it seemed to be a deliberate attempt to put Sam off

It was a dirty tactic by a dirty player. She then more or less threatened the umpire by saying "if we're ever in a hall together you better look the other way", or something like that. She's a bitch, I hate her and her fat arse and I'm so glad Sam won.

So then according to Serena even if she wasn't aware, she still knows that she was showing bad sportsmanship. What a bitch man. So glad Sam won. Serena usually wins games when she throws hissy fits and complains. Sucked in, couldn't have happened to a more deserving person in her home grand slam. That makes this win all the more sweeter.

The rules in Tennis are pretty clear cut. If it falls into bad sportsmanship, its going to be against the rules.

Cricket used to be the same.

Her wiki page was updated pretty quickly.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serena_williams#Controversy

In the final of the 2011 U.S. Open against Samantha Stosur, Williams again generated controversy. After Williams apparently distracted Stosur as the Australian attempted to return a forehand Williams believed to be a winner by shouting "come on!", chair umpire Eva Asderaki awarded the point to Stosur based on the USTA's deliberate hindrance rule, which states, "If a player commits any act which hinders his opponent in making a stroke, then, if this is deliberate, he shall lose the point or if involuntary, the point shall be replayed."[80] As the point was 30–40 on Williams's serve, the penalty gave the break of serve to Stosur. Williams became angry with the chair umpire and made several gestures and unflattering comments toward her during the next several changeovers, warning her, "Don't look at me," and telling her that if Asderaki ever saw Williams coming toward her, she should "walk the other way". Williams initially gained momentum in the set following the penalty, breaking back in the next game, but eventually flagged and lost the match, 6–2, 6–3. At the end of the match, she declined to offer the customary handshake to Asderaki. Williams mentioned the incident in her post-match speech as the tournament runner-up, claiming, "I hit a winner, but I guess it didn't count," but added, "It wouldn't have mattered in the end. Sam played really well."[81][82] A writer for ESPN suggested that Williams could avoid being found to have violated the terms of the "probation" on which she was placed following her 2009 outburst, as she did not appear to have used profanity in addressing Asderaki during the match.[83]

I thought Sam blew her chance at a grand slam when she lost in the final of the French to Schiavone a year or so ago, but coming out and beating Serena at the US is a massive win. Not surprised to see Williams carry on like a brat when the umpire calls her on her dirty tactics and doesn't let Serena bully her. I guess Serena will crawl back under her rock for a few months before she decides to play in the Aussie Open.

IMHO I don't think Williams yelled out to distract Sam , she just got overexcited at her great shot and went off early ( don't we all sometimes??!!!! )
But when it happened I thought , "you can't yell out when the other player's trying to hit the ball. "
I do think though that the poimt could have been replayed rather than just given to Sam and that may have diffused the situation.
As it was , the emotional turnaround was palpable . I was very worried that it would throw Sam's rhythm , but she showed us just how focussed she was.
GOODONYA SAMMY!!!!!!

Serena gets fines $2000 for flaming the umpire yet she won $1.4 million.

Gee she'll never do that again after that punishment.
