This is absolutely tragic.
Granted, he wrote a few articles that may have upset a large number of people, but the way he wrote them, as well as his vast knowledge on the game of cricket, it was hard not to appreciate what he did write.

Terrible, terrible news.

RIP Peter Roebuck.

Cricket writer Peter Roebuck dies
Andrew Stevenson
November 13, 2011 - 10:23AM

The acclaimed cricket writer Peter Roebuck has been found dead at a hotel in Newlands, South Africa.

Roebuck, a writer for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, was 55.

He played for the English county Somerset, made a home in Australia, and built a reputation as the best columnist on the sport.

He travelled widely with the Australian team, and was also a radio commentator for the ABCs.

It is believed he was spoken to by police earlier in the day.

More to come.

Not saying anything about what the cause was, but it's that bit about him speaking to police earlier that day that makes me wonder. Could this be Bob Woolmer all over again.

looks like it may not be a natural death.

Honestly I never liked the guy , I aprreciated his passion for the game but his moral high ground on some issues was hard to stomach considering his questionable past.

It says he was spoken to , not that he spoke to police.

there is a difference.

Everything else aside he was a very good commentator for mine, if a little wishy washy with his views. Really loved the sport, and stood up for the longer form of the game in the face of candy cricket's emergence. I'm going to thoroughly miss him on grandstand. Terrible news.

RIP.

Being found dead in your hotel room more times than indicates it wasn't a natural death.

Anyway RIP Peter, I've always enjoyed his articles and most of them I have agreed with.

I enjoyed reading his work, whether or not I agreed with it. I also enjoyed listening to him on Grandstand. Sad news.

A 55 year old dropping dead in his hotel room has heart attack written all over it.

Didn't care for his writing, although did love him on ABC Grandstand. Whatever your opinion still a sad thing to die so early.

Very sad news. His articles on cricket always compelling, and his commentary far more insightful and not afraid to upset the apple cart.
