Really looking forward to this.

Australian squad of 14 will hopefully look something like this:

D.Warner
S.Marsh
M.Wade (WK)
D.Hussey (c)
M.Hussey
T.Birt
M.Marsh
D.Christian
M.Starc
N.Coulter-Nile
B.Laughlin
B.Lee
M.Beer
X.Doherty (would have gone with Glenn Maxwell, but he's out injured)

Selectors may stick with White as captain, but IMHO this would be a much better balanced squad looking forward to the next T20 world cup.

Dussey over Warner as captain, not sure why, just my hunch of what they'll do, time will tell.

the last thing Sean Marsh needs is to play in this mickey mouse game if the selectors are serious about retaining him in the test team

If they pick Travis Birt, which I think they will, I hope they put him in the top 3. He'll be wasted at 5 - 7.

1. David Warner
2. Shane Watson
3. Travis Birt
4. David Hussey
5. Michael Hussey
6. Mathew Wade
7. Mitchell Marsh
8. James Faulkner
9. Brett Lee
10. Mitchell Starc
11. Xaiver Doherty/Michael Beer/Brad Hogg

nice team Earl, I'd go with Hoggy but pretty sure he's retired from international T/20

he's still got it though

Steve Smith wouldn't be far away either

Mike Hussey usually gets rested from T20s. Lee has been pretty average this season, would only be picked for his rep. Wouldn't mind seeing McDermott given a crack or NCN but he'll be in Canberra.

Sok as the incumbent should get a look in. Hasn't done anything wrong since coming back from injury. Doherty deserves a spot and Lyon could also get a look in due to his 10/11 Big Bash form. Hopefully they don't go overboard on quicks. Smiths 50 in the last game might save him, but he's done sfa otherwise.

Smiths fielding alone makes him a contender, he bats OK but I'd only bowl him an over or two if there was no grass on the pitch otherwise I'd forget him as a bowler

If Hoggy is not up for it, I'd go SOK as he can bat alot better than X

To be honest I forgot about Steve O'Keefe and I would have him ahead of Michael Beer.

Steven Smith should be no where near an Australian side. The fact that he was in the top teir of Australian Contracts last year was outrageous.

Wouldn't hold his place as a batsmen and bowls absolute rubish. If your picking players on feilding ability alone, your scrapping the bottom of the barell IMO

My starting XI would be:

D. Warner (c)
S. Marsh
T. Birt
D. Hussey
D. Christian
S. Smith
M. Wade
J. Faulkner
B. Lee
M. Starc
N. Lyon

Based on his form in the BBL I would have picked Hoggy but I can't see him coming out of international retirement tbh.

Hoggy has declared himself available for selection for the 20/20 World Cup..

Hogg keen for T20 international return..

Justin Chadwick

January 9, 2012

After displaying some blistering form in the Big Bash League, former Test spinner Brad Hogg has declared he will end his international retirement if Australia requires his services for September's Twenty20 World Cup.

Hogg, who last played for Australia in 2008, snared 3-20 off four overs to inspire the Scorchers to a 42-run victory over Adelaide Strikers on Sunday, lifting Perth to equal first on the table.

The man-of-the-match performance took Hogg's tournament figures to 6-115 at the miserly run rate of 6.4 an over.

But more importantly, the 40-year-old now has the belief he could again match it with the world's best at the highest level.

Hogg, who notched seven Tests, 123 one-dayers and two T20s for Australia, has put his hand up for the next edition of the IPL, while he is also keen to play on with the Scorchers next summer.

And this year's Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka is also in his sights but only if selectors feel he truly deserves a berth.

"Look, I've been part of two 50-over world cups and one Twenty20 world cup and we didn't do too well in that Twenty20 world cup, so if they asked me I would definitely put my hand up and say yes," Hogg said.

"At the end of the day, if they're picking the best 15 and they think that I'm in the best 15, I won't say no.

"But there's a lot of good young cricketers around."

Meanwhile, Hogg has urged national selectors to stick with spinner Nathan Lyon for the third Test against India at the WACA Ground.

Hogg was controversially left out of the Test team four years ago when Australia opted for a four-man pace attack on what they thought would end up being a fiery wicket.

But the tactic backfired badly as India notched a 72-run victory, with Hogg's replacement - Shaun Tait - wildly misfiring to return match figures of 0-92.

"I think you've got to go in with a spinner no matter what conditions you're in," Hogg said.

"And for Nathan Lyon, even if he doesn't get any wickets here it'd be a good lesson for him to bowl on something like the WACA.

"It'll improve his bowling, so I'd be backing them to play the option of the spinner."

Former Test opener and outgoing WACA chief executive Graeme Wood disagreed, predicting Australia would opt for an all-out pace attack after the tactic worked well against England last summer.

Ryan Harris is almost certain to replace the injured James Pattinson, while left-armer Mitchell Starc, who snared 3-17 in a fiery Twenty20 bowling display on Sunday night, could squeeze out Lyon.

WACA curator Cameron Sutherland said the pitch would have 20 per more pace and bounce than the one from four years ago, and said Australia wouldn't be wrong in picking an extra paceman.

The fact that he got an ashes gig is mind boggling, the guy is shit and was brought in to "liven up the dressing room" :sarcasm:

Best to leave Hogg out until the WC. The T20 WC is a while away anyway so any form he might get from this series would be gone by then.

I'm sitting on the fence with the multiple selections, but i really can't choose between the spinners,& although i'd love to see Starc get the 11,if he plays in Adelaide the selectors may rest him until the ODI's..

I'm loving the build up in depth we are getting..:)
