It’s still early in the season and there have been some good signs, still see us as top 4 if things go well.
*
The props have been going outstanding, the back 3 has shown plenty of spark and Soward has shown more maturity and confidence this year. Looks like Style has finally found a home at centre as well.
*
It’s the back row that’s really let us down so far (with the exception of De Belin). Creagh is down on form, Scott’s mind is elsewhere, Young is on one leg and Prior has just been Prior. If we get the back row firing, we should be okay.
Scott has had his mind elsewhere, agreed and needs Price to speak with him about getting his head straight.
Prior's game in the centres last week began badly but otherwise, he's been okay and certainly better than 2011. Don't discount Creagh's work in defence he's true value and a couple of runs from finding best form. Young is solid but for 40 minutes at bestt.
Once Coops returns, if he stays fit, we're in good shape and perhaps equal to our 2010 side. I wouldn't swap BMoz for Boyd, 2010 Gaz for Stanley, Costigan for De Belin. Hunt is a back, Horse is playing way better, Merrin is now a man and Rein/King or Rein/? is better than Fein/Young.
Vidot is going to do really well for us this year.
There are only two superlatives fit to describe Jason Nightingale... Jason Nightingale! He's our Mark Coyne of this decade.

Did anyone else see that run run by merrin about 30 secs before stanley scored! bloody awesome!!! he dragged them 25 metres!!!!

It's a very good sign that we didn't throw it in after halftime and we came back at them hard!

Put it this way, if we played the first half the way we did the second? we put 40 past brisbane!

That was great he just kept pumping those legs.

42 points conceded in 2 1st halves. That makes up just under 50% of their overall points against. Take those 2 shocking halves out and Saints are not doing that bad at all. And they have played 3 teams that finished in the top 4 last season and a Bennett coached Knights team. Tough start to the season but they have come out OK, but it can get worse if the lose the next 2 against the in form Sharks and Knights (twice in 7 weeks, top draw, WTF).

Bronco's finished with a 91% completion rate. They can't get much better. Pretty good for Saints to have only lost by a try in the end.

Agree here, Sharks is a very dangerous game. They like to try and play up the middle with the forwards they have. They can't rely on the whole " we turned it around after dogs match and this will be no different" , they need to be very switched on.

Saints need more linebreaks. I never see anyone in the team run a 100 metres to score a try. Did you guys see Ben Barba and Josh Morris. Brett Morris and Matt Prior or Beau Scott wouldn't be able to do that.

A lot of hate for Beau in here. On the performance he put in against Manly it's hard to doubt his commitment for this season. He was hardly the lone ranger in the first half last night, no one was committed in the first 40 minutes.

disagree
i think the hate is more for Price and his persistence with playing back rowers in the centres...

My god. The analysis in this thread is why I stick in Jubilee Ave.

Hornby has been very good so far this year. Prior has been outstanding in three games except when forced into centre and against the Bulldogs.

People turning to Miller as our saviour. LOL....comical.

with analysis like yours you can go back to jubilee ave..

Hornby good?? ... i would say Hornby inconsistent.. and defensively has been a liability..

Prior outstanding?? ... that'll do me....

Miller or Ah Mau off the bench... i know who i would choose for impact..

sheeshh...

Travelled from Nth Qld to watch the game at Suncorp. It was only the 3rd game I have seen them play live and apart from the first half I absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was awesome and the Dragons supporters were very passionate. I have been a fan for 35 years and had such a great time I signed up to be a Red V member for the first time. I just hope I can get to a lot more games now.

Vidot should have been moved to centre or Green should have been promoted it was a safe option but imo a soft c**k approach by Price and if he persists he won't last to long.

Scott isn't be the same player as he was in 2010 or 2011 he has taken the money and split so he should be dropped for some one who is sticking around its rather embarrassing he is getting out played by De Belin by a long way.

Soward again has been poor his kicking game other than the kick to Morris was ordinary and goal kicking not much better to be honest I am not a big fan period.

Its easy to blame Hornby but he was never meant to be a half he was moved because Doust and his incompitence to attract a good half to the club.

areas of concern for me:

1. extremely soft marker defense (that was atrocious friday)
2. defense on our line
3. we never contest attacking bombs (rarely)

Won't disagree with his kicking, after what he did against Manly and how good it was what was delivered on Friday definitely wasn't good enough. However your going to bash him for goal kicking? the 2 he missed were sideline attempts and both of them hit the uprights, then again haters got to hate

f**k off then

Agree

Prior has been outstanding in three games except when forced into centre and against the Bulldogs.

"Outstanding" in 3 games and not so good in 1?"Outstanding" is a big call. Although I would agree that he was solid in 3 games; however he has been poor in 1, there are reasons for it, playing out of position and personal distractions.

People turning to Miller as our saviour. LOL....comical.

Miller might do ok off the bench, provide impact, no saviour though.

Gotta bench him but they won't. (prior)

Thing is, his strength is supposed to be his ability to play 80 minutes, take that away by playing him on the bench, and you may aswell play someone more dynamic who can push back the opposition line.

Prior showed something against Newcastle I hadnt seen in a while, but there is still nothing about his game that attracts me, he is the definition of a plodder i think were calling it at the moment.

The funny thing is nearly everyone that sticks up for him on this forum says something along the lines of "he might drop a few balls but other than that" or "he might miss the odd tackle but he plays for 80 minutes " etc etc but wait a minute???? Doesn't that make him shit?????

It is what it is...you knock the ball on and miss tackles you are playing shit its as simple as that. You might get away with it in round 5 but what will happen if its locked at 12-12 with 5 minutes to go in the GF and he f**king knocks the ball on running off our own line???????? For f**k sake, enough is enough. The verdict is in and its unanimous...Prior sucks

And to think i used to be one of the few that would defend him

It is not uncommon for players to make 1-2 handling errors a game and miss a couple of tackles per game. Only making that many mistakes in 80 minutes is good. I'm sure someone can pull out the stats on this.

So you are one of those peanuts who don't think we are "exciting" enough? How many 100 metre tries did we score in 2010 you goose?

Give me strong, consistent built on a base of strong defence over the flashy shit any time...

agree with this..
some very soft coaching calls by Price...
Scott is out of form because he hasnt been allowed to settle into the back row... the one game he played at lock i thought he showed glimpses of getting back into form..
and the sooner Hornby retires the sooner it will force them to re-evaluate the qualites needed to play half back... i think they will then move soward to half and Stanley to 6... the sooner this happens the better.
