I'm not a fan of Johns getting a gig period Unit.

The immortals can have a touch of the larrikin about them, like Raper and Fulton, but they shouldn't be a f**king mug-lair with an admitted history of drug-taking like Johns.

I think Peter Sterling is the forgotten man in all these discussions. Excelled at every level of the game and was untouchable as its greatest player for a long time. Is a respected media figure and analyser of the game and is an all round great bloke. It should be him.

Sterling didn't excell at Origin level. Even he'll tell you that. Ricky Stuart is NSW best ever Origin halfback. 4/5 Series wins.

For a competition that has been going for just over 100 years, none of the current immortals played in the first 40 or so years. Surely there has to be some talent from that period. The only name I know is Messenger.

Stars from the last 20 or so years (eg Johns, Lockyer) can wait another decade or two. No need to rush them in...

Bob Fulton had only been retired 2 years when the original list was named...

By the by, is there any reason why Sticks is listed twice in the poll?

a touch of larrikin?

geez, i've heard some pretty good stories about Raper. certainly no angel.

and i accept your premise - unit. i just think that Johns was totally peerless in the modern era - particularly in his own position - and that as the game progresses, we get do get better and better players. despite you waxing silly about Thompsons record - Johns record doesn't read like a chump, either. Johns had other difficulties to contend with, such as carrying a motley crew of players through most of his career whilst training out of shipping containers in a professional era - competing with professional teams. Johns had moments that Thompson didn't, such as Origin, too. in fact, Johns was the last player able to deliver NSW a win. i disagree with you that Johns impact won't be still remnant in 80 years. it's prevalent in every young half. ask any first grade half running around who they modeled their game off, i'm sure Johns name comes up.

being the rugby league history buff that you are, i understand where you're coming from... but i suspect that in 80 years time that Unit Jr Jr. will be arguing blue in the face that Johns is better than whoever they're inducting as immortal #50. time does funny things, most players fade with time... but legends grow stronger. i anticipate that in another 50 years, Andrew Johns will be a foot taller, 5 seconds faster over 100m and able to balance his entire backline on his pinky finger.

For the Immortals to be taken seriously it has to be either Norm Provan or Mal Meninga both of them have done more in their careers that Johns... I have no doubt that Johns will be one one day but not yet.

having said that i wonder if it is a co-incidence that the year Johns becomes eligible they decide that its time to induct another immortal
And this is why Queenslanders should be forbidden from voting.

To put Meninga in the same sentence as Johns is a joke.

And his Origin coaching counts for nothing. You could put a cap on a donkey and call him "Queensland Head Coach" and they'd have won just as much with the team they have these last few years.

And lol @ f**kwits bringing up his drugs. Do you geniuss know the difference between performance enhancing drugs and recreational drugs? The shit he took didn't help him play better, if anything it would made him worse than what he could have been so it is irrelevant and shouldn't detract from his legacy.

Is there any forum you're not the nadir of?

I agree with you completely mate.

Look at the current Immortals, they were unsurpassable, there was no question or debate over their inclusion.

The next immortal should be the same.

The fact that theres conjecture over Johns shows he isn't worthy of the title.

None of them......from that list IMO

The last immortal should be one D. Lockyer /

But that won't do. ....

The wails of injustice from south of the border would create a tsunami like wave of whinging....sooo, I spose "Junkie Johns" should get a spot, even if it's only to keep NSW happy and to negate the ineveitable cry about how QLD are "cheating" again

I agree also with the non-inclusion of some of the names from yesteryear's yesteryear. They already had their names up when the earlier immortals were picked.....and they weren't

move on.

I'd have Lockyer in front of Johns, but I wouldn't have him in front of Provan, Summons or Irvine.

He'll be there, but not yet.

I can't accept your argument that Johns was without peer during his career.

He had to be shifted to Hooker for 10 of his 23 games for Australia to accommodate Geoff Toovey, Allan Langer and Brett Kimmorley.

That alone shows that he wasn't without peer.

And don't pull that condescending bullshit on me regarding my comments about Thompson. If you bothered to do any reading and talking to former players you'd know full f**king well what I was on about. Just because you're too lazy to do any of that isn't justification for you to call my opinion silly.

Thompson played with a bullet lodged in his lung and served in two world wars. He had a job as a postal clerk while playing. He played for NSW and QLD, he travelled to England on a tour by boat. Don't f**king bring John's hardships into it. Thompson played during the depression ffs!

I'd have no problem with Lockyer becoming an Immortal in the class after Johns.

The two best players of the modern era should be there, in the rightful order.

Mal Meninga, Andrew Johns, Peter Sterling. The rest apart from maybe Allan Langer are making up the numbers at this stage.

Those 3/4 are the only ones that would be seriously considered. I think Mal will get it. Joey will get it next time.

You can't have Mal who is in the centres of the team of the century and Joey the halfback not be immortals.
