Fox are a disgrace.

Can hardly go a game without mentioning Manu's infamous performance v the Eels a few seasons back. He's had plenty of more recent shockers, but they don't seem to care.

Jungle ball is a term used in the US to describe pick up games of basketball played on public courts with no real rules or etiquette.

It's not a racist term, it simply refers to messy, flashy, selfish backyard play.

However, I feel like the way NRL commentators use it probably has some racist undertones. The tigers are one of the biggest proponents of jungle footy in the comp yet they are rarely described as such

They actually do Manu a favour IMO by only mentioning that game as his "shocker".

Plays rubbish 3 out of 5 weeks every season but gets talked up immensely by commentators who've turned him into some sort of cult figure impervious from being dropped and a walk up starter for the kiwis for reasons unknown

So we can put it down to ignorance then, much like the "big Warrior forwards" line that always gets a run.

Commentators still talk about the Warriors as if it's 2002/2003 and that stereotype continue to hangs around. Jungle Ball would just be an extension of that.

It's mostly because his continued selections in these sides is entirely justified on merit

I can understand calypso football because they play like they are stoned most of the time.

its downright ignorance & to be expected from some...look at some country's race relations history and progress.
should you be offended? hell no, take it as a compliment that they can find no other way to describe aboriginal, indigenous, native, Maori, PI, PNG, african american (you name it) style of play - we know it is an attempt to denigrate flair, instinctive, exciting play....who cares if it doesn't always come off?
Sports would be f****ing boring without it - never doubt what we all bring to sports.
"jungle ball' ? beats nazi, white supremist, stiff-arsed, stiff kneed (especially when they dance - on or off the field) poor excuses for non-athletic, boring, predictable, unimaginative, robotic, and pea-brained pretenders any day....
no offense intended :sarcasm:

For the same reason some clubs are described as being mathematical or precise and even monotonous. To be honest I can't see where or how Jungle footy becomes an insult to players?

Not justifying it all if there is a reason to be offended but I know I can certainly claim ignorance regarding any comment around jungle. I merely thought it referred to a less structured and more off the cuff type of game style.
There is a long history of non white people being described as apes/monkeys. Apes/monkeys = jungle.

We dont know what it means, so we'll make something up that makes it racist.

The link to a style of US basketball sounds the most credible. The Calypso descriptor to me is more linked to the flambouyance inherent in some past legends of West Indies cricket fame - the calypso kings.

Neither is remotely racist as calling Ellery Hanley "Black Pearl" or Anthony Mundine "Chock"

Wrong. Apes/monkeys = your sexual partners.

Maoris and African Americans have a huge impact on global sport

You're an idiot, and a racist to boot.

David Morrow called Matt Cecchin a showpony yesterday.

A week after saying he loved having a spotlight on him.

Where do you draw the line?
