Just watched the replay (whilst sober)

Changed my mind & say it was a definite over-reaction from Chechin. The moment got to him. I thinkin my drunken rage I was more pissed at Soward for mouthing off.

The 2 other ref f**k ups were worse.

1. The decision to say Vidot wasn't held. The second Nightingale touches him it's automatically held.

2. The Friend strip. I'm not sure whcih was which, but you clear as day hear one refs saying "Strip! Strip!", but the one with the whistle said play on.

I blame Harrigan. If Checcin is a show-pony who wants to steal the spotlight he can only have learnt it from one person.

This is why I liked Sean Hampstead.
You knew he was always going to make one bad blunder a game BUT he left his ego in the locker room unlike Harrigan, Clark and now Checcin.

The ball WAS DEFINATELY stripped from Weyman!

Sh#t refereeing is one of the biggest blights in the game of rugby league, only other game I can think of as bad is cricket. Sometimes it's real daylight robbery, I would love to see one day that one of these ref's/video ref's get caught out in a Ryan Tandy style scandal and be dealt with by the law. I'm just saying.;-)

lol, The Chookpen. I always go in there occasionally for a laugh.

Apparently it's the refs that got Saints over the line on Wednesday. GF all over again.

I agree with them,if Mat CHOOKEN didn't award that soft penalty then the Rooters wouldn't have been 8 in front with 5 min to go.

Not only that, If that f**k wit picked up the stripped ball by friend on Weyman after Weyamn scored then it would definately affected the outcome.

We would have won by 10!

In yawnion (not that I watch it) the referee almost always decides the result of the game. They can give penalties and rulings that no-one has even heard of. Also in AFL the same thing applies (not that I watch that either).

Hi All I was in the Kangaroo Valley for a few days and could only faintly pick up the ABC radio broadcast of the game. Whoever the commentators were seemed really fair to me. They were really against the penalty against Jamie Soward and said a strip on Weyman. Thats all, I think Warren Ryan was one of them.

Certain publications are pushing the perception that the player was at fault. Luckliy for the ref, his incompetance has been overshadowed because the team showed real spirit to run them down after that.

FTR, there were bad calls going both ways. Mostly minor stuff. But the late penalty for dissent was just plain stupid from the ref. In the context of the game, five minutes to go, right in front of the posts to give one side an eight point lead? Stupid as stupid is. And all because a senior player said the 'F word' when appealing for 'held'.

"f**ken held!" That's it. There was no abuse towards the ref, nothing personal, no one was touched or pushed... just an expletive yelled in the heat of the moment.

No first grade referee should be so precious to see that as dissent. It happens every weekend. The penalty was clearly an overeaction.

I suspect the ref has been told on the quiet that he stuffed up. IMO, you won't see another bad call like that all year.

The refs make it up as they go how the hell do they see what's going on when there are 10 blokes piled on one another.

i think league is one of the easier games to referee, I did it myself in a high school game when the ref failed to turn up to the junior year 8 high school game lol. With all the technology linesmen, two refs, video ref, how do they still get it so wrong so often, go figure.;-)

They appear to get it wrong more nowadays because of the technology. If you didn't see a replay from 5 different angles you wouldn't know they had made a mistake.

What I used to love about union years ago was when the ref had to make a call on held up or try. He would make a decision and looked certain of it. That game got ruined when they brought technology in. The technology has improved league, but ruined union.
