Not here to bag the guy, he is certainly is tough.

I just think he lacks a touch of class for an Origin halfback.

Having said that, he probably is the best choice atm.

We have stuck with and probably need to keep sticking with him but if someone in the next twelve months can show they could handle Origin he has to go.

If you want a tough defensive half who can kick the ball high he is ideal.

If you want a half that can organise an attack and lead a side to victory he isn't.

Stuart, and the NSW selectors, are clearly satisfied with the former.

He can tackle and run the ball quite well but its his horrendous kicking game that will stop him from being a great player unfortunately

Bird and Gallen are sidelining him as they would any half the way the team is playing atm.

Here we go again... We won but let’s bash Pearce anyway.

His short kicking game needs to improve, no doubt, other than that he has played really well in both origins this year. His long kicking game was fine and takes a load of pressure off Carney so he can do what he did with the Stewart try. His defence is immense and his organisation is fine and keeps the team going in the right direction.

His defense is outstanding but his kicking game is awful. Nearly every kick was straight down the throat of Slater or the wingers.

 Pearce kicks it to Slater or Boyd on the full every single time which makes it easy for them to run back and gain easy metres, every single time he kicks it straight down there throat

As I said in another thread, it's hard to find grass when 1. The defense moves up fast and crowds the kicker and 2. You are kicking to the best positional fullback in the game.

I couldn't believe when he kicked on 3rd tackle and still couldn't find grass

Better tonight than in Game 1.

The organisational game of Farah and the running game of Carney are something he will find more confidence with as well the longer they all play together as a unit

Pearce did exactly as expected. Put in a solid and reliable 7/10 performance.

You'll never get a 9/10 from him, but you'll never get a 4/10 either. He's consistent at what he does and really with Farah and Carney in the side we don't need a creative no 7.

The future of the NSW spine is looking pretty damned good IMO

He's the same player as Wallace basically (strong defensive players) although Wallace's long kicking game is usually more fruitful.

Carney needs to do a bit more of the general play kicking, because QLD were able to target Pearce easily and Carney had a couple of nice kicks.

The fact of the matter, one halfback dropped the ball and got caught on the 6th tackle 25m out from his own line and that was not Pearce...

... And I'm a big critic of Pearce.

I've been willing to give this guy a break because he is under such a shit coach at club level. But he keeps turning in shit performances in Origin. He's still young and has plenty of time to improve.

So sick of people saying Pearce is young and will get better, yeah he's only 23, but ffs this is his sixth season in first grade.

Call a spade a spade, he's a decent first grader but he has no creativity, lacks the type of instinct for the game a rep level half-back needs and he just cannot grab a game by the scruff of the neck when the chips are down. He struggles to build pressure on the opposition by earning repeat sets.

He can throw some good passes, put through a decent kick and all, but he is not a champion halfback.
