Game day vs Knights

I suppose, but we are down on a bit of luck amongst many things. Those balls just keep rolling in the in goals and backs keep retrieving the irretrievable 40/20's. I would have loved to see a replay of that.

There's a saying that goes "you make your own luck". A bit silly perhaps but there's a truth to it. It doesn't matter whether the sport is Rugby League, Soccer, Golf, Tennis, the difference between pulling off a winning play is a distance of millimetres. The good teams are capable to do that, the weaker ones like us cannot.

Well that was crap.

They looked tired and uninterested. The back 3 were crap. As was Tonga.

The forwards struggled bigtime.

Sandow was copping it on the radio on the way home. Harsh I thought as his game was much improved.

Crap.

Back from the game, chAnge hookers and the result could have been different.why we don't have a second 9, and don't appear to be recruiting one is beyond belief. Even get his brother back, service was horrible from dummy half. To add to the problem , Luke Burt is not a full back. Recruitment is vital and has to be effective

I thought both Kelly and sandow were our best tonight
Individually sandow was ok. Kelly was good for 10 mins but missing for most of the game.
Keating tackled well and again was ok individually
Burt was poor.

That's our spine and the reason we lost the game. The team was directionless and without purpose in attack and just hanging on in defense.
The purpose is to defend with your attack, as we had no direction in our attack we had nothing.

I thought Sandow was good tonight, Kelly not so much but he hasn't exactly been here long

Not sure what everyone is expecting from Sandow. I reckon he was very good tonight.

Involved in both tries, and his chip and regather was a close thing. If we scored from that play, everyone would be saying what a genius he is.

And I'm sorry but that has to be Burt's last game in the Blue and Gold, if a kid from the 20's or Wenty couldnt add more i'll give up. And Morgan>>>>>>>>>>> Tonga.

Hayne comes back next round, who stays and who goes? On form, probably Tonga partners up with his brother at Wenty.
1 Hayne
2 Burt
3 Blair
4 Morgan
5 Sio.

p.s.For those in Bay 66, I don't think Sio is from China.

So does anyone know if Mannah was injured or did SK leave him on the bench for the whole second half? I don't remember seeing him and heard nothing in the commentary.

- Its actually embarrassing how much our team relies on Hayne.

Every team that has a player that good relies that much on him. That's the price we pay for having such a superstar at the club.

The last time a player as influential as Hayne won a premiership was 2006 - that's five and a half years ago.

Was fairly even going into half time, but disappointing effort in the second half after the coach's talk. Too many mistakes on our part, and Newcastle had the composure to just play mistake free and take advantage of our lapses. Newcastle also won the wrestle up front all night and easily slowed the play the ball down to their preferred pace.

Without Hayne we had no x-factor to fall back on and play catch-up. I thought Sandow at least had a go, and Kelly wasn't too bad either. But our attack and kicking game was too predictable, and the knights put excellent pressure on our last tackle options. Agree that we need to work in an option to give MK a 10 minute break at some point - Paulo seems to be doing a bit of dummy half work when on, but MK would be fresher (and perhaps our attack sharper and less predictable) if he could take a complete spell off the field.

Very disappointed in Willie Tonga though, felt he didn't even try to create anything for his outside man in Morgan, and wouldn't even pass it to him when he had space. The only time Morgan seemed to get the ball was late in the match after a cut out pass. Not good enough Willie, maybe you were rushed back in Hayne's absence but a stint in Wenty is in order?

My backline for next week:

1. Hayne
2. Burt
3. Blair
4. Morgan
5. Sio
6. Kelly
7. Sandow

MK was woeful. 2 steps out of dummy half before trying to figure out who to pass it to. Just slows down the entire attack EVERY SINGLE WEEK (why do so many people keep saying he's been playing well...)

It's tough to be too critical of Burt because of who he's replacing. But I thought his positioning was horrible last night. Knights kicking game was shocking, but pretty much every kick found the grass because Luke was too deep. Also, after his missed tackle on Naqama, you could see his shoulders drop and he 'gave up' - didn't contest a bomb or run the ball at the line for the next 10 minutes.
Clearly confidence got dented, but I expect more from my senior players.

I'm going to disagree on Tonga.

I don't think he was terrible. He handled the traffic they sent his way, and needs someone inside to make him the space to operate in.

Of course this is hard for the ballplayers when they're getting such slow service from the dummy half.

I have been saying this for weeks. It his 2 step shuffles screws up the timing of the runner and then forward passes come. It also gives the 1st receiver less time. I great defended but he is not cam smith so just give quick service

We play with so little depth there is no use for centres. Morgan last week range with some depth but it is too flat.
