Field strikes me as a guy who needs a mate to help him in a fight.

Hasn't he been convicted of armed robbery some years back. Won't help him if he was.

Neither Mr Field nor Mr Fathers, who sat expressionless throughout this afternoon?s court hearing, applied for bail.
Some of you should reread this bit. I suspect that although they have been grievously stupid, by not applying for bail that they are also remorseful... although that would in no way excuse them in my books if they are guilty. Just saying to me they aren't the actions of a grub

Or they know the evidence is so overwleming that bail would have been rejected.

I don't know how you get that they are remorceful just because they sat expressionless and didn't apply for bail. Told to act that way by their legal counsel I'd say (guilty or not).

I have no opinion on Field or this particular tragic event....however, not applying bail after being charged with murder can potentially be explained by several factors including the one you cite, but also 1) a recognition that the application would either unlikely be granted, or if granted bail would be prohibitively high and 2) might not be such a pleasant time for the accused and their family if the accused lives in the community for the next few weeks.

Some of you clowns need to get off the moral high horse. Tragic accident or deliberate act, well that's for the courts to decide. Dickheads sometimes give or receive a knock-out punch that may be deadly. This could happen to anyone on either side of the punch. This seemed like a bar fight gone horribly wrong, don't try and link this with that cowardly thug who king hit that poor kid in the Cross.
