I’m not that bullish about Leiataua but if he’s fit, I’d have him centre ahead of Capewell given Capewell has his own frailties defending there.

Not at all. He was appalling defensively against the Cowboys and Knights so that’s at least 2 games this year in what is not his main position. I mean, the guy literally leads the entire competition in missed tackles so it’s not crazy to question his defence. He has had some great games but I never feel comfortable with him at centre. Too slow and falls off a lot of tackles.

A winger is a lot more reliant on his centre defensively than vice versa so I have to question the logic of some of the takes.

Interesting. We agree that DWZ has been terrible, but i cant really buy the notion of centre culpability.

DWZ has been terrible at D ever since hes been in the NRL, Are you implying that all the different centres hes defended with are at fault? (not just Capewell).
The eyes see what the eyes see. Hes a muppet on defence no matter whos inside him. I dont think its a trope at all.
Capewell did a stirling job for several games in a row considering what he had to babysit. Last week wasnt his best effort, but im more inclined to expect him to bounce back with a decent game than DWZ.

itss not and either/or situation, it can be both and I think in our case it often is. Dallin IS a shit defender. But he oftern also get hung out to dry by his centres. On days when the centrtes are doing their job he might let one in and score two, and we can live with that. On days like sunday when the whole side is dysfunctional we get carved up. We used to get a similar situation with Manu and some of the guys he played outside (Ropatii springs to mind).

I'm not buying that Dallin's issues have much to do with the centre.

As I said previously, go watch I think it was the Marzhew no try on Sunday. Capewell had Best covered (or was in Gagai in the line I can't remember) but Dallin still came screaming in. Actually I just watched again, it was Marzhew's try. We were sliding, Capewell had the assignment on Best but Dallin comes FLYING out and is completely ineffective.

He does it so often. Why did he get the reputation as the intercept king in 2023? Because he was out of position. We ignored the failures but we can't now. I remember the Broncos final in 2023, he scored a couple but he was also brutally exposed for a couple as well.

I'm a huge Tuaupiki fan and he's been great, but he doesn't automatically usurp CNK.

It sucks, but the only way TT gets in there is if DWZ or CHT gets chopped, or CNK moves to centre.
Either way it's blokes out of position.
