ANZ stadium

ANZ gets criticism from everyone for being a terrible place to play home games and giving no home ground advantage blah blah blah, but odds are the two regular ANZ stadium tenants will finish 1st and 2nd with 2 of the best home records in the comp.

Maybe it's time to give ANZ a bit of credit, next to SFS it's the best stadium in Sydney when the crowd gets above 20k. The atmosphere is fantastic with decent crowds. We're trying to build the game to average 20k+ so ANZ has to be the cornerstone of the game in the years to come.

The stadium is a great place to watch footy, very comfortable with all the amenities you'd want. And Canterbury and South Sydney are showing it's also a great place to call home and play footy at.

So enough with the ANZ hate. Let's show the stadium some love.

It's a great place to decorate cars.

I do like ANZ when the crowd gets above 20k. Souths have done a lot to improve the home ground atmosphere of games this year too.

Whats one got to the do with the other? Cant really be suggesting that there is some link between Souths and Dogs form to the stadium they play in? Recruitment, coaching, etc aren't dependent on ANZ stadium.

You need 30k minimum like today to get any sort of atmosphere but hopefully with membership drives across all Sydney clubs, that will become the norm.

Too bad you've never been there.

Souths are an historical powerhouse with a very big apathetic supporter base that they are finally starting to get on board. The Dogs have always been big. But yes, it's purely down to the stadium...

Doesn't explain how our sh*tsack and the abandoned QEII stadium are the most storied venues of the NRL era however ;-)

So the teams running 1st and 2nd have good home records..... what a surprise that is. Are you also going to point out that the teams running 15th and 16th have terrible home records ;-).

The Dragons actually have the best home record in the comp this year.... and ANZ is still a hole.

I'm just waiting for the day when the intelligentsia at the Rabbletohs get together and finally move the club back to THEIR TERRITORY.

ANZ Stadium is not, has never been, and never will be Rabbitohs territory.

We will when SFS pays us to be thre like ANZ does instead of expecting to charge us to play there

Look at a map. ANZ is in the centre of Sydney. SFS is off to one side of Sydney. ANZ is far better at maximising crowds. There are just as many Souths members living in the Penrith and Parra districts as there are in inner city/eastern suburbs.

The above, and also the fact that playing at SFS is nowhere near as financially beneficial as ANZ.

Put that crowd in a Suncorp, anfield or old trafford and multiply the atmosphere by ten! Anz is a blight and sadly the main reason we won't see a proper RL stadium built in West Sydney.

To be fair Timmah, it's not Dogs territory either. But that hasn't stopped your club from making it a very successful home. and Kudos to the Dogs for blazing that trail. And Kudos to the Rabbitohs for finally turning that massive fan base of theirs into big crowds.

Considering how spread out the Rabbitohs supporter base is, the central location makes good sense. I'm starting to think my club should make a leap of faith to either ANZ or Allianz, because in our current form, despite being historically well supported, we're clearly limiting ourselves. Oddly enough, I think ANZ is easier to get to from the Beaches than Allianz!

Ridiculous arguments. A shitload of Manly fans live on the Central Coast, in Newcastle and out in Western Sydney. Arguably more than on the Northern beaches.

Should we move them as well? (Shitty Brookvale aside).

Just because "a large amount of fans come from somewhere", doesn't mean you forsake your home ground/area... just because you're getting a "sweet deal" down the road.

So how did the Tigers end up at Allianz? Playing there free?

Not Dogs territory? It's practically a perfect meeting point for the Tigers (based at Concord), us (Belmore) and Parramatta - we're arguably one of the closest teams to the ground. Hardly a valid argument against a team like South Sydney who have crossed over the city itself to use the ground when there's a perfectly good one in front of them.
