We were in good shape
Brown couldn't handle senior players but the roster and Doust and Young's accrual of same was good work. Bennett came on board because Browny coundn't handle managing the squad

There are so many angles to this argument it's a friggin labrynth!

One has to understand why bennett was brought in.



My take on it is I don't think he was there to implement new structures (he actually credited nathan brown by saying he didn;t have to change to many things). H e was there to deliver us a premiership.

There was an article in a special edition of rugby league week and they questioned bennett on why joined the club and he said "the club felt that they needed to win a premiership soon".

Even in his press conference when he announced that he was leaving he said "I feel the job is done"

What job? what was he referring to?

He was referring to a premiership for the Dragons. The club basically wanted a premiership quick smart and they got it.

Doust said it after the GF win, that a brand like the Dragons could not go on without winning a premiership soon.

They weren't after a restructure/new start like what the Knight are trying to do now.

Never easy. - ah yeah the rookie coach with no credentials who should never have been hired in the first place, let alone have the role for 6 seasons delivering zero success when IMO 3 of those seasons at least we had the best roster in the comp....

yes they were very close friends... that was the problem in the first place... jobs for the boys..
and that was one of Dousts major mistakes, putting their friendship ahead of the success and well being of the club he is the CEO of.

I'm happy to give Doust credit for the success we've had over the past few years.
But my perception is that we, being the demanding, insatiable Dragons fans we are, are now seeing an element of hand sitting by Doust and the board, based on what they delivered us in 2010. We fans wanted to see the foundations that Bennett created be built on for many years to come. But there is nothing coming out of the club to indicate that's what is happening. All we've heard about is the need for triangle players and organic growth. Hardly inspiring stuff.

i agree with this, it seems that Bennett came in and showed what was missing in the clubs strategy in order to bring success. And the moment bennett leaves it seems we have fallen straight back into the bad old habits - a bit of a rudderless ship approach.
And this is my key reason for thinking Doust has served his used by date.

good points Williow. for the record what are your thoughts on Mr Doust and whether you see him as a viable CEO to lead the club in the right direction?

I'm not interested in mindlessly bagging out on someone based on what they might or might not do in the future, but I do believe a change for the better in the front office has been needed for at least the last 10 years. The problem has always been, who can step in to fill the breach? Doust's successor will already be on a short list and there's nothing to say it will be a move for the better. Many have tried to get elected to the board to break this status quo, but it is an incredibly hard nut to crack.

The last time we fans had any success at ousting a CEO was back in 1994-95... when Geoff Carr was run out of town for trying to get us to merge with Easts. There was a fan revolt. Club members were up in arms. The board had to sack Carr. From a St George supporter's perspective, it was something to be very proud of. But it was an extraordinary time, and far more critical than lack of onfield success or poor recruitment policies. The club's very existence was at stake and Carr clearly underestimated the potential backlash. Many of the people in the SOS group went on to be part of R2K. With respect to all concerned, that type of organisation amongst the fan-base isn't really as evident nowadays. I suspect it would take something more critical than the current debate.

How the hell do they allow our last round game v Parra to be on at 7.00pm when THREE legends are retiring.Ch 9 don't deserve to retain TV rights after this dumb decision alone.It's a marketing dream for the sunday arvo slot ,20,000 to see Hindy ,Deano and Burt say goodbye.
My argument is that like the AFL,the draw for the whole 26 rounds should be done before the season starts.What is the ARLC going to do about this ,nothing.

At what point of time does Doust, and or the Club Board if he won't, acknowledge the shambles that has been this season.

By any measure our club sponsors and our supporters deserve some answers. A good start would be acknowledging our shortcomings and providing a plausible rationale for their occurrence and a plan of action to rectify same.

No we are not always successful, but we are in the business of competing, and this year sadly we did not.
