Is Marshall a great player?

Also the next two weeks will be interesting ones for benji, he has to get us in the finals without our first choice 1/6/9. He is the only remaining spine player! If the tigers make the semis it will purely be on the back of him

Yes. He's not in a great situation now, his best form (2005, end 2009, 2010, 2011) was all with a good halfback (Lui, Prince). Even now, he's still 2nd (?) in try assists, so he still creates tries like an elite half.

Enigma who had the chance to be great if paired with a proper half but instead hamstrung by an insipid merkin of a coach who is out to prove himself right when he said Benji was a halfback all those years ago when he first gave rise to that ill conceived notion

If running sideways, stepping and jinking but getting nowhere and throwing a brilliant flick pass that fails 90 times out of 100 is brilliant, then yes, Benji is brilliant.

i hate the tigers.... but in saying that, i like benji and think he is a great player.

benji basically carries that team. i think surrounded by a better team he would shine even more. ironically...its because he is in a team of average players that poses as a contrast to his natural skills.

just in the same way barba is able to show off his skills behind a solid/dynamic team...benji would tear up an opposition if he had a platform for it.

(their new winger is the only shining light)

Premiership - tick
Golden Boot - tick
World Cup Winner - tick
Four nations winner - tick
Captained club and Country - tick.

Hmmm......I wonder. Wouldn't be too many others in that club.

Influenced an entire generation - tick.

Seriously how many juniors do you see trying to imitate the Benji step or the flick?

Wow, just wow. The playing group at wests tigers is in the top 5 of the competition.

Barba tears up because he chimes in at second or third receiver with room to move then uses his speed to bust through and the same on kick returns when teams chase in a staggered line...hmm come to think of it sounds like Benji when he was at his brutal best. Running 2 or 3 wide using his step not having to worry about organizing. I don't think Barba would go to well either if he was in Benji's shoes today.

Sums it up. Not many better 5/8s running around today. Pity the geniused coach has him playing halfback.

Benji is a shadow of his former self, he's always been a terrible defender but he made up for it with his "razzle dazzle" style attack; he doesn't even have that anymore.

These days he's just a glorified Kiwi Kris Keating with tattoos and shit defence.

Benji Marshall. Sunday football. Leichhardt oval. Sunday. Benji...

I'm going back to bed Rabbits

:lol::lol:

Oh f**k! I just realised we have to put up with that bullshit for another 5 damn years...

In that Stacey Jones category.

In top form, unstoppable but has weaknesses that prevent him from being considered in that elite company.

On paper though, his resume doesn't look too shabby, a premiership, golden boot, world cup & four nations. Not too shabby.

Yeah, of course he is.

The main criticism of him on here seems to be he is not at his best when he is playing half back.

But the question is not whether he is a great half back. He would also make a lousy prop, but it doesn't stop him being a great 5/8.

He is a fantastic player and one who would get into any team in the league with the possible exception of the Cowboys (but they have the only other world class 5/8 in the NRL).
