What i'd like to see for the Bunnies are:

Playing rivals like Easts, Wests, St George, Manly, Parra, and Canterbury twice, which usually happens anyway, however it would be good to see in particular;

- Both games against the Roosters at Allianz on Friday and Sunday (I know one of them is on the Thursday) to draw in 30K + crowds both times

- Home game against the Tigers at the SCG (I know it won't be ready) and the away game at Leichhardt, last time we played there was 07'

- Home game against the Bulldogs at Allianz, away at ANZ, brings in the geographic location of both clubs.

- Home game against the Eels at ANZ, away at Parramatta (can't remember the last time we played them there)

- Home game against Manly at ANZ, not at Bluetongue, we can play the Knights there, which i think we are doing anyway, and away game at Brookie.

- Finally home game against St George at ANZ, away game at Kograh just like this year.

Personally i think the Rabbitohs should try moving a couple of home games to Allianz each year seeing as it was our home during the 90's/00's and obviously geographically closer the the South Sydney homeland.

You've just lost half your big home and away rivalries. The Broncos only visit Townsville once every two years and the Cowboys miss out on their biggest drawing match every other year.
If the number of teams in the comp moves beyond 20 (and perhaps even beyond 18) we will rapidly reach a point where, if we want to keep these home and away rivalries, we'll have to accept that not every team can play every other in a season. That's when conferences will become a necessity.

Exactly. In a 20 team competition if it's a choice where we play each other once (19 games - so losing games), twice (38 games - wake up, you're dreaming!) or a divisional/conference format with an emphasis on ensuring all derby games are played twice without sacrificing games or adding excessive games - then yes, we need to go with a divisional/conference format for draw equality and maximum attendance.

I'd say you're right, probably better off playing 2-3 games at SFS against the Eastern Sydney teams. It will boost overall crowds and they can be sold as a membership package.

Crowe told the SCG trust .. to take a hike when they moved out to homebush

It will be a long time before the Bunnies have anything to do with them again

SFS will be too small for us anyway by the end of the decade especially if the NRL is targeting membership growth of 14% p.a.

why would the Tigers play Souths at Leichardt when the last 2 games at the SFS against them have pulled 23K & 25K
they'd crack 30K with the right conditions

same with Parra ... why would they potentially turn patrons away
their home game at ANZ against Souths with the right conditions ...
could pull 30K

if we are going to get our average crowd up to 20K in 2017
& double our memberships to 400K by then as well

big all Sydney clashes cannot remain in the suburbs
Leichardt .. Kogarah/WIN ... Parramatta stadium etc should only be used for less appealing out of town clashes ... & games against the smaller Sydney clubs like the Sharks & Penrith .. only

specific venue memberships
4 game blockbusters at the bigger venues + a bit of merchandise with em , for some Sydney clubs is the way to go
with a fixed schedule its going to be so much easier to sell these types of memberships

Well at the risk of some derision but I'd suggest that Souths are capable of a 30k+ average by decade's end and that would still suit the SFS even if it pushes it close to capacity - and for the record - that's a good thing.

True. In fact even at 40k members, the SFS is still fine.

But a lot at the club haven't forgiven the SCG Trust for the way they kicked us when we were already down in 04-05 whilst they offered Easts a far more generous deal.

Fair points you all make, and yes i can agree with some probably best off with games against the Bulldogs, Tigers and Dragons in bigger stadiums, just stating what i'd like to see is all. :p

The main thing I would like to see are Sydney nrl teams playing each week of the Easter show. Dogs and souths can have one each, with another team grabbing the third one. Attendance wise it looks very good, and as a game we are aligning ourselves very well with families, who may want to take there kids again if we get it right.

I would suggest keeping the Dogs vs Souths match on Good Friday and trying to build that up so that it becomes a 40-50k match.

The other 3 big Sydney clubs are Eels, Dragons and Tigers so my suggestion would be Eels vs Dragons on the Easter Sunday for similar effect.

I'm not convinced after a long day at the Easter show that families want to go to the footy... Unless you've parked at Olympic Park (which not a lot of families choose to due to the cost) then you're carrying around show bags and what other 'quality products' you've picked up at the Easter show.

I think the target market is the teenagers if you're looking to get people going FROM the Easter show TO the game.

If you want to target families I think you play a Saturday game at 1pm with discounted or free entry to the easter show after the conclusion of the game. Fireworks, rides, shows etc etc. after a game of footy is just a good night out for families.

4pm Good Friday is bang-on IMO. Worked v well last year and delivered 35k crowd. Could keep growing beyond 40k in the next few years.

What happened to Canberra/Manly in Shenzhen?
Brisbane Broncos will play Manly to kick off 2013 NRL season to commemorate Broncos' first ever match
By Dean Ritchie The Daily Telegraph November 07, 2012 7:13AM

It was among the most famous club games of the modern era - for a variety of bizarre reasons.
Brisbane 44, Manly 10, March 6, 1988, Lang Park.
It was the Broncos' first match, Wally Lewis produced a dominant performance, the reigning premiers were belted but, more memorable than all of that, Sea Eagles prop Don McKinnon urinated on the field.
Now, 25 years on, the NRL will commemorate that notorious game with a round-one blockbuster between the teams to kick-off season 2013.
It's understood the game will be played on the opening Friday night at Suncorp Stadium, the old Lang Park.
Brisbane have been working closely with the NRL to make it happen.
"They ambushed us that day," recalled then-Manly back-rower Noel Cleal.
"We went up there as premiers and they jumped all over us from the start. We were playing catch-up.
"It was their first game at Lang Park and we were without Ron Gibbs and Kevin Ward from the grand final. 'Fatty' (Paul Vautin) was playing hooker, too."
Asked about McKinnon, Cleal said: "I was only standing a few metres away from him. He said: 'When a man's got to go, a man's got to go'."
Some of the game's greatest players were on show that day - and it was in front of a disappointing crowd of 17,451.
Brisbane had Lewis - who scored two tries - Allan Langer, Gene Miles, Michael Hancock and Greg Dowling.
Lock Terry Matterson scored two tries and kicked eight goals for 24 points.
The Manly team included Cleal, Vautin, Dale Shearer, Michael O'Connor, Cliff Lyons and Des Hasler.
Miles said: "That match was memorable for a number of moments.
"First and foremost was the expectation we played under, from all of Queensland. We were unknown and the new kids on the block and Manly were the premiers.
"It was our first venture into the big league and we had all come from different clubs in the local Brisbane competition.
"But we couldn't have asked for a better start."
Miles still chuckles about McKinnon.
"It probably wasn't the place to do it," he said. "It was The King's (Lewis) backyard - and he took a leak."
The full, fixed-schedule draw for the first 20 rounds of next season is due out later this month.
Rick Stone and Kirk Pinneo, of Canadian company Optimal Planning Solutions, are in Australia working with the NRL on the draw.
The game's two broadcasters are currently selecting the most attractive games from each round, with the NRL also consulting clubs.
