End nears for suburban NRL grounds

Because people, like me, love being able to walk or take a short trip to the local ground to watch a club match. We love our slightly rustic faciliites. We love our kids being able to kick a ball on the hill.

The two tards who want the NRL to look like the A league, don't go to games and don't live in Sydney agree with each other, shock horror.

Again with the 1970 stuff. I said earlier that only Brookie is substandard and that is still true. (Leicchardt too but thats only used sparingly and looks great).Penrith, jubilee, shark park and WIN are all good places to watch footy at and meet all NRL broadcast and facility standards. So what's the problem? Why force people to move elsewhere when we know it won't work?

Nobody is being forced to do anything, people like you are as bad as the people who say everyone has to play in one stadium, neither is true. At the end of the day the nsw govt has announced it's stadium strategy. NRL has announced it's strategy goals re crowd Avg's. It is up to each club to decide what works best for them and their customer base. If they can keep up with 15k crowds in their suburban ground good luck to them, ultimately the club, driven by the $, will decide.

I think suburban grounds should stay but get rid of the useless clubs i.e. souffs, cronulla. Make it like this:

Penrith = Penrith Stadium
Parra = Parra Stadium
Dogs = ANZ
Manly = Brookvale
Sydney Roosters = Allianz
Wests Tigers = Campbelltown/Leichhardt
St George = Kogarah/WIN

OT: Seriously can't we just ban bunniesman, he knows nothing about nrl and doesn't attend games!

If they rebuild Parra into something decent, is there any way they can dismantle the old stands and drop them off at Sookvale or would the cost be just as much as building them a new stadium?

In some respects getting rid suburban grounds is a good idea but in most respects it's not. So until the pros out weigh the cons its a bad idea.

It must be so much fun living in Canberra. When you're not watching the Raiders play you've got all the time in the world to watch the tumbleweed blow by. Maybe if you're a good boy your parents will take you on a special trip to Cockington Green for your birthday.

No such thing as a casual Raiders fan because there's SFA to do the rest of the time in a town devoid of life.

I fu#king hate Cockington Green but if we have to go to Gold Creek, then can we go to the Dinosaur Museum or the Walk in Aviary or maybe we should go to the National Reptile Centre and can we pretty please stop by the Lolly Shop :p.

That's just a list of things to do in Gold Creek do you need me to do the whole of Canberra?

PS I really do hate Cockington Green, It freaks me out.

I think one day dragons will go to a 4/4/4 which would be an ok trade off if thats as far as it ever went. Promote the f**k out of the big 4 games, get 35+ at each. Then those casual fans do go see a brisbane game at kogarah and eventually see a titans game in the gong on a monday. Has the potential to bring in more fans. Hopefully within 10 years have every game at kogarah/win sold out.

Big 4 would be tigers/dogs/eels/ with roosters on our home year and rabbitohs on the other.

Could get 30+ pretty comfortably at any of those fixtures this year let alone in 5 years time.

With the 5 year strategy in place to increase crowds, entry will be more price friendly so teams playing infront of 10K will be a thing of the past

In theory that works. In reality no chance people will stay home. Try in get in ANZ on a week night. Same with Allianz. Not to mention the view at ANZ is the worst I have seen.

Give me standing on the hill at a crappy Brookvale then a seat in ANZ. You are so much closer. Leaving is not much more longer then the parking bays at ANZ. Not all grounds would be the same Campbelltown gets 4 games a year so in that case it's as good as gone.

Penrith council charges the Panthers $0 to rent the ground. The council wants the flow on for the other businesses. They could fund upgrades if they need it.

Brookvale needs to be renovated. We need a decent nrl stadium north of the harbour bridge.

Well on Triple M they had Graeme Annsley on, and as he said, it's not that the govt is saying you can't play at surburban grounds, they just want clubs to be aware of what the governments strategy is going forward in which they will only invest in certain stadiums, and thus clubs can start preparing there own strategy's going forward (either move or put money away for upgrades).

As Graeme said, the NSW Govt spent $300 mil on grounds in NSW in the last 10 years with not much to show for it. While Victoria, WA and SA are spending/have spent similar sort of amounts with great stadium's coming through.

-You want the NRL to look like the A League.
- you think suburban grounds are a relic of the 70s, despite many on here who regularly go to games professing their affection and clubs like souths and dogs selling out their trials in disused venues.
- you don't go to games in Sydney (tell me, when was the last time you went to one of the grounds in use by the NRL that are considered suburban?)
- you think that people who enjoy suburban grounds should revert to the NSW Cup despite scores of fixtures set down to be played in these venues next year. (the irony of this is delicious when to see a Perth team play in Sydney you will have to go to Henson or North Sydney Oval or Leicchardt if Perth are deemed worthy of that lofty competition)

But I am extreme?

Public Transport comparison - leaving venue Friday night 9.30

Spot on. Driving is not much better. M4 beside a handful of times doesn't move. Homebush Bay drive is packed from about 3pm. Parra road can be good sometimes. Parking $15. Drink & hot chips over $10. X that by 4 times.

Compare to Penrith 10mins from the station. Every street surrounding free parking. For a local like me. I drive park just outside the ground and am home 10mins after the game. Add to that I am 4 rows from the benches. 0% that will happen at either major ground.

This thread is literally people who have no idea about Sydney talking about Sydney. Sydney is over 6 times more dense than Perth. Is over twice the size and has a much larger population.

Perth red and bm simply do not know what they are talking about. You can probably walk across coffs harbour in 40 minutes.

I travel from St Leonards to ANZ (Homebush) for Bulldog games every Friday and Monday (Obviously after work) and never had a problem getting there on time (I leave work @ 5pm), for the games on saturday and sunday I travel from Monterey (Drive)... I'd prefer to sit at ANZ in comfort then sit on the hill at Penrith, Brooky or Kogarah (And Kogarah is only 5 minutes from my place) etc. I'd rather wait about 2 minutes for a pie and beer at ANZ with a crowd of 30K+ then 30 mins at one of the suburban grounds with a crowd of 15K all crammed in.

As annoying as I'm sure that is with traffic you are still only travelling about 20kms. The lower north shore, the eastern suburbs, the inner west etc can all reasonably travel to centralised stadiums but Sydney is much larger than that.

Area that can be called Melbourne is about 8800 km2, Perth about 5000 km2. Sydney is about 12100 km2

Sorry Perth Red, I usually support you being from Perth and all, but you are completely wrong here. You have no idea about Sydney and its demographics. You have taken the wrong team by supporing BunniesDerp

Sydney is an absolute f**kstick to get around, and I have lived in a varitely of locations from the Blue Mountains all the way to Pennant Hills and everywhere inbetween.

IF, and I mean IF the NRL were to centralise stadiums, it could only work if there was a 3rd major stadium for the people of the west. And that should not be Parramatta Stadium. Think Rooty Hill and you have a winner.
