The Launceston Warriors have roared to the top of the Premiership Table in the Statewide Rugby League competition after defeating the Hobart Tigers 40-26 in Launceston on Saturday.

In the best game of the season so far, the Warriors belted the Tigers in a game of fierce defence and sparkling attack. Tigers Coach, Mick Hunt, could only shake his head in disbelief as his star studded side was taught a football lesson by a Warriors Team which has beaten all before it this season.

The Warriors headed the Tigers 30 to 6 deep into the second half before letting in some soft tries when the result was no longer in doubt. Chris Tupou, Nate Wells and Rob Lyons had excellent games for the Warriors, while half back Sid Fielea played well behind a beaten pack and an outclassed backline for the Tigers.

In the other game the Southern Rabbitohs defeated the Eastern Thunder 38 to 34 in a close match. The result was in doubt till the last 5 minutes when the Rabbitohs crossed for two crucial tries to win the game and move into third on the Premiership ladder. Howie Hyland at halfback was best on the field for the Rabbits while Chris Munns had a blinder for the Thunder at full back.

Next week the Tigers and Rabbitohs play at the Showgrounds while the Thunder travel to Launceston to play a Warriors Team which now must be classed as Premiership favourites. There will also be a North South under 17s match in Launceston which should set up a fierce rivalry into the future.

The Eastern Thunder were defeated 30 to 10 in an error ridden game against the Launceston Warriors in Launceston on Saturday.

The Thunder held their better credentialed opponents to a 16 to 10 score line at half time before the Warriors took control of the game in the second half.

Jeff Ellis and Matt Ford had huge games for the Thunder who are improving each week. Best for the Warriors were Isaac Anderson and Rob Lyons.

In the other game, the Hobart Tigers defeated a gritty Southern Rabbitohs combination 58 to 4. Viliami Vea had an outstanding game on the wing for the Tigers along with Mick Tulip who had his best game this year.

The Rabbitos best players were Luke Brooks and Zac Locke.

In the Under 17s North South game played in Launceston, Southern Tasmania beat the North 26 nil.

Next Saturday the Tigers play the Thunder and the Launceston Warriors play the Rabbitohs in the match of the round. Both games are at the Showgrounds.

Keep up the good work down there elbusto
It is a season that gets better as it goes mate. Launceston have been a revelation. I think next season will be a beauty - I will not be so knackered (like after last season) and we will have the Storm game.

The Southern Rabbitohs nearly caused the upset of the season in Round 5 of the State Wide Rugby League competition losing 18-16 to the undefeated Launceston Warriors on Saturday at the Showgrounds.

The Rabbitohs led 16 to 14 with 3 minutes left on the clock when Warriors winger Peter Hawara ran fifty meters to save the game for the Warriors. In a game of fierce forward clashes the Rabbitohs were relentless in defence causing the big Warriors forwards to lose far too much possession early in the tackle count. Daniiel Aualiitia had a huge game for the Rabbits solidly supported by Kaden Salter and Stuart Clark. The Warriors best players were Criff Tupou and Steve Wise-Wilson.

In the other game, the Hobart Tigers defeated the Eastern Thunder 68 to 14 in an open game of Rugby League. Luke White and Vaha Afa dominated for the Tigers while the Thunder was best served by Kalumbo Pututa and Adrian Quinn.

The competition resumes on Saturday 12 January.

The Southern Rabbitohs have defeated the Eastern Thunder 40 to 22 in the match of the round in the Balanced Book Keepers State Wide Rugby League competition at the Show Grounds on Saturday.

The Thunder led 22 to 16 twenty minutes from full time but left Coach Wayne Armstrong exasperated as the Rabbitohs ran rampant in the last quarter of the game. Howie Hyland and Shaun Collis were stand outs for the Rabbits who are finding form at the right end of the season.

The Top of the Table clash in Launceston between the Launceston Warriors and the Hobart Tigers was all one way traffic with the Warriors demolishing the Tigers 90 to nil. Criff Tupuo was unstoppable for the Warriors and was well supported by Harrison Whenua in the front row.

In a first for Tasmanian Rugby League, these two games were the first to be played under the NRL’s new laws relating to shoulder charges in Australia. Tasmanian Rugby League President, Justin Kearney, stated that the new rules, which increase player safety, were a success and that local Officials and players adapted to them well.

Launceston gets very good crowds - about 150. In Hobart we did until we moved to the current venue.

Will change next year and spice it up and get them back.

We get 1000 to the Grand Final. 4000 were at the last Grand Final - they rolled up 4 hours before the Storm trial to watch our GF.

Best roster game I can remember was Tigers Rabbitohs when we got about 300.

The Launceston Warriors have held off a determined Southern Rabbitohs outfit 32 to 30 in Round 8 of the Balanced Book Keepers State Wide Rugby League.

In a classic match played at Royal Park in Launceston, the lead changed 8 times as the two Clubs traded tries in a game dominated by solid defence and gritty attack.

The Rabbits clung to a 30 to 28 lead with 5 minutes to go.

However, the undefeated Warriors showed why they are premiership favourites when barn storming prop, Criff Tupou, charged 50 metres, pushing off three would be defenders to seal the match for the Warriors.

Jono Tunks and Harley Lyons also had strong games for the Warriors. Fiery number seven, Sean Collis, had a great game for the Rabbitohs along with Zack Locke at full back.

In the other match, the Hobart Tigers mauled the Eastern Thunder 84 to 4.
Tigers Coach, Mick Hunt, was all smiles as big guns, Sid Fielea and Sunnia Maafu, ripped through the Thunder defence in a display which demonstrates the Tigers are back to their best.

Have you got Warriors Shirts on the way? Are there any plans for changes of teams next year (will we see the Cowboys return?) Do you get all the kits from the same supplier?
