Was at the game, and from the grandstand, we were nowhere in the contest.

Souths were rolling through their sets, making metres at will and their backline was slick and well drilled. Our backs were a rabble, the number of times the ball hit the ground during backline moves was ridiculous.

I know it's only a trial, but Souths were that much better, it wasn't funny. Souths are a gun team, and they will give the comp a shake. We will need to improve markedly to be able to match them and the other top sides.

Just 2 small points from a Souths fan.

Of course you want Souths to be the people's team and win 5/22 games a year as in the 1990's. Reality is not what it was.

The era of St George being dominant was a long one and it is now over.

Get used to it.

I'm happy for you guys that you're team is playing well.

40 years of domestic violence against defenceless women and children inexcusable.

thats the point...jesus...
FIen is the next hornby... meaning Fien will cop the same abuse this season that hornby copped last season...ie playing a season too long....

I looks to be the case. Fien has had a great career but the opposition worked him out at hooker. It will be even easier to work him out at half. I'd look at Drinkwater/Soward. If not, Soward/Beale and try Cummins at fullback. But Fien must go.

I understand that it's only a trial but after watching the game you couldn't help but wonder what attacking shape has Steve Price been working on for the past 3 months.

If we had the worst attacking stats last season why play a similar structure? Overall it was a lazy and sloppy effort. Some positive points, Rein looks to be developing into a leader, Prior played well in the middle and Merrins footwork is unreal.

Also John Sutton is a dog! The way he carried on after Cam King was concussed was pretty shit although it was good to see Isaac Luke show some genuine concern towards King's well being.

if Price was only working on our attack for 3 months you would cut him some slack.. unfortunately its been over 16 months since Price stated he was going to re-invent our attack and look how well thats progressed..

Poor team + serious top 4 contender = 10-28.

Melbourne in Melbourne next.

Strap yourselves in dudes, I think it's going to be a long and turbulent season.

Careful... You'll need to send some tissues to a few sensitive souls on here.
Don't be too negative. We'll be fine. Wooden spoon kinda fine.

What a way to begin a season. The team is pedestrian, crumsy, disinterested and downright wooden spoon material. The coach is in denial and living in fairyland. The CEO has gone missing in action. The fans, after being fed the usual off season hype, are shell shocked. And how has all this come about? One word, "Price".

But really who in their wildest dreams would have predicted that Coach Price could have transformed our once great club into the shambles that it is today. Take a bow Mr Price!!

P.S. Price supporters, yes both of you, cut and paste the above, and rub my nose well and truly in it, when we alienate Melbourne in two weeks time.

Hi All, no I did not get out to the gamebut in a way glad we weren't 'too competitive'. Lets get Quinlan( this guy is the goods ) into the team somewhere and Runciman.

Hard to believe now that this time just 2 years ago we were the best rugby league team in the world - bar none. How did we fall so far, so fast? What happened to Bennett's claim that he'd put the systems in place to enable long term consistency in our performances???

He took them to Newcastle along with Boyd,Costigan,Smith, McKinnon and co.

Only trial form. I'll reserve judgement for when I head down to watch us play the Storm. Overall though I agree with the initial sentiment that our attack looks fairly pedestrian. I'm hopeful, but still sitting in the brace position for this season.

No, l think that's too simple a reply that focuses on some players, not the systems he established while he was here. Has Price managed to dismantle everything that Bennett put in place in less than 2 years? Or were these systems really dependant on Bennett staying here to ensure they worked? Just a couple of questions to ponder, l guess...

Bennett only said that to stop supporter backlash. The system he put in place was the staff that worked behind the scenes, then he proceeded to take them with him and some players as well.

He did bring most of them with him so it's understandable that that would happen. It was all tongue in cheek stuff.
