Losing so much class at once and replacing them with stock standard NRL players was always going to be a struggle for you guys.

All those 3 guys are rep players and match winners, who do you look to now for that moment of magic in a match, Tim grant???

You had to clear your cap but letting your 3 biggest players go at once was just crazy.

Tell me again what is the Broncos record?

Oh that's right 1-3...exactly the same as Penrith.

f**k off you pest. Worry about your own shit team.

The ONLY player I'm missing is Gordon.

We came 15th last season with them. Lets see where we finish this season before comparing teams, aye?

We should not be measured until 2015. Until then losing is a result of Elliot's damage. If we happen to jag a few wins great, that would be because Gould is leading us out of the woods.

Brandy made a brave prediction on radio - we won't run last in 2013.

Feltis the chairman said that we are looking to 2015, and he's not expecting to make the 8.

I have no idea when I have ever heard a club downplay its likely impact so much for so long.

The board speaks it, the ceo speaks it. Are they scared of the responsibility. They have convinced fans that the club has no aspirations this year, little wonder our crowds are so pathetic.

Read this: http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/phil-gould-reveals-how-his-great-mate-james-packer-helped-save-the-penrith-panthers/story-e6frexnr-1226598539653

...Gould revealed to his board in early 2012, that by 2014, Panthers faced a frighteningly impossible calculation where 12 players from the 25-man squad could've been taking up to all but $600,000 of the salary cap...

Basically it was short term pain for long term gain. Of course we miss them, they're great players and we don't have any replacements of their calibre at the moment. But I'll take losing them over not being able to field a team in future.

Yep missing them now is irrelevant. This season is irrelevant. Last season was nothing. Next season we start to be serious. And the following season we will really have our shoulder to the wheel, then we'll know if we are did the right thing.

hehehe..Lewis making two (well he attempted 2 but got 1) big hit tackles against the dragons then went missing for 3 sets. Wish he never left us. Then his run back into the ruck tactic. Why did we let him go. Gets dominated in tackles. Bloody Gould the fool.

I guess Big Mick, I should just accept that bottom third is an acceptable performance for this year. That is difficult to swallow.

No one is asking you to accept that...nor is anyone finding that acceptable.

But constantly just shitting on the plan going forward is just a cop out and shows a tremendous level of ignorance.

I haven't seen you once acknowledge or post a positive post at all - even if it is warranted. It's all this sarcasm about 2015.

It wouldn't kill you to sit back and think about what has happened in the last 12-24 months and improvements off the field and in lower grades and what 2014 is currently looking like even with just the crop we have plus the two new signings. It isn't all as dire as you think. I am expecting mid-field this year with a top 8 position next year. I think that is realistic...not because of what Gus has said...but because of what the talent dictates right now.

It is not sarcasm about 2015. It is sarcasm about NOW!

I am not shitting on any plan that I have seen. All I have seen so far is retrospective excuses. You may have seen the plan but I haven't.

I also don't think you are in any position to instruct me about what I should consider positive. You might instruct me on the plan that you have seen.

What is ignorant is encouraging people to continue to blame Elliot. You seem intent on this.

By the way:

I believe Cleary is a very good coach and more importantly is a good manager of people. And Cleary will have to be very very strong to overcome or resist the deeper issues the club has.

I agree not one recruitment drive can fix those problems.

That was agreement with you if I recall correctly.

For the record the team is showing much more promise than it has for a few years. But I am sick of people blaming Elliot and trying to lead us to accept that a bottom third performance this year should not reflect badly on our leaders.

What is ignorant is encouraging people to continue to blame Elliot. You seem rabid about this.

I'm not encouraging people to continue to blame Elliot. I am much harder on the management that hamstrung us than Elliot. I was just providing the evidence of what Cleary took over, which was a rabble. And it wasn't all Elliot's fault either, nor have I made an assertion that it was purely his fault,...as you rightly said it was the board that kept him despite management saying he should go. But that same management also negotiated terrible contracts that crippled our ability to do anything to improve the team...so essentially it is a group effort as to why we are in the position we are in today.

My Elliot comment today however, was about how people want to kick Cleary to the curb already, not you, but others and all I was saying was give him time...he took over a bad roster and bad culture and takes time to turn it around. What's done is done....but at least there are things in place for the future to fix that. Not blaming...just providing rationale.

And I agree with you that a bottom three performance isn't acceptable and not something I'd be happy with either - I had said already that 8th-11th is what I was expecting. But I'm also realistic in looking at our rosters in comparison to others and knowing that we are nowhere near the top 4-5 right now. I'm expecting mid-pack and if that happens a lot of people will be pissed, but I wont be calling for mass firings either - which I know is not what you are endorsing.

As for the plan, my post earlier in the other thread provides a skeleton of a team for 2014 that is essentially very different to two years ago when Gus took over. That essentially indicates the plan as a build up. Insert a few promising young players who are seasoned with reserve grade experience and we will be in a position to remain competitive for the long term.

Obviously the plan took a hit in that we missed Thurston which would have given us a key piece to our puzzle. But ultimately the building of the roster and the depth via juniors is in progress, that was the point I was trying to emphasize in the earlier post that when sitting back and looking at where we were...and where we are now and in 2014 in both a financial and team sense...is vastly different. The performances YTD haven't been great, but the skeleton to a very competitive and hopefully premiership winning team is here...now it is just the final pieces we need to put together.
