Name & shame the ones who made a laughing stock out of the theater arts but who wound up laughing all the way to the bank.

I'll kick us off...

John Wayne
Ben Affleck
Clint Eastwood
Will Smith
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Tom Arnold
Martin Lawrence
Adam Sandler

Don't wanna hear no shit about Eastwood, either. Superb director who couldn't show range if someone held a gun to his head. He was a great, great cowboy & tough guy but not even the best of his generation (see Jack Palance), & he had nothing for the cameras beyond that.

Now you go.

Sylvester Stallone
Jean-Claude Van Damme
Steven Seagal
Jackie Chan

Wasn't sure if Dolph Lundgren could be called a commercial success, so omitted him. Absolutely awful actor.

Most of the guys here have had at least one role which was convincing.

I'll sort out the ones here.

TOTALLY WRONG

*Will Smith....the guy can act and has proven it more than a few times.

ONE OR MORE TOP PERFORMANCES

*Clint Eastwood... "Unforgiven"...top performance. No versatility at all but plays the same type of character very well and was very engaging.
*Arnold Schwarzenegger..."Terminator"...no actor in the history of cinema would have pulled off that role better than him. Poor actor but engaging.
*Slyvester Stallone....first "Rocky" and "First Blood" were top notch performances. Better actor than Arnold and engaging. Poor actor for the most part.

AVERAGE

*Ben Affleck..... I think he cops more flack than he deserves.
*Tom Arnold...meh...not terrible, not great.
*Martin Lawrence... I find him annoying but not a terrible actor.
*Adam Sandler...hit and miss....mostly miss
*Mark Whalberg...average.
*Gerard Butler....goes ok.

POOR ACTOR
*John Wayne.....awful actor. Some people must see charisma in him....I don't.
*Van Damme...I love him and his earlier movies had charm. But, a poor actor.
*Jackie Chan...cannot act his way out of a paperbag but has loads of charm.

TERRIBLE (no redeeming feature)

*Taylor Lauttner. I have no idea why an idiot producer would hire him to head up a movie ("Abduction"). He has nothing.
*Steven Seagal....one of the most boring actors ever...the guy puts me to sleep.

I can't agree with some of the names already mentioned but I'm not really going to argue since it's a fairly subjective topic. So here are my names:

Michael Cera
Kirsten Dunst
Keira Knightley
Nicholas Cage
John Cusack
Greg Kinnear
Matthew Broderick
Sarah Jessica Parker
Alicia Silverstone
David Spade

I think Tyler Perry, considering how much money he rakes in off his dumb as f**k films, has to be up there.

Cage is a brilliant actor. I mean he's not perfect but when he swings for the fences he rules.

Terrible but part of the charm. There is a scene in season 7 where George needs to replace a marble rye at Susan's parents place and Jerry steals one from an old lady and says "give it to me you old bag" and he runs away smirking. His bad acting made the scene somehow funnier.

Yeah I wouldn't change his style.

Dumb thread. All the actors listed do what's required for the film they are in and what the director asks of them.

Affleck is underrated. He was lead in a shitty Michael Bay movie and everyone gave him shit from then on. Now as the director and lead actor of a best picture winner he's proven he has more talent than the people who bash him give him credit for.
