We have erred in chasing big names. Opportunity to play first grade is our biggest attraction. Big names are interested in big pay days and premierships.

easy to say in hindsight. if we did that, no doubt the majority here would be baying for blood about why we didn't chase the headliners, and comparing to kearney's coups of webb/fats/hicks etc

I have argued for that to be the process for years. Not really hindsight. It just continues to be highlighted when we chase big names and miss out.

Sorry. Quality material Pete. Keep up the great work.

Bloke walks into a fishmonger's with a cod under his arm.
"Do you make fish cakes?" he asks the fishmonger.
"Yes, certainly sir" comes the reply.
"Oh good" says the bloke, "It's his birthday".

there's some truth in what you say, but it's not like we haven't chased players wanting an opportunity because we've signed some of them eg norman lussick

95% here didn't even know who norman was 4 months ago and were disappointed at the time.

our problem is how many players we need,.

You offered us Degois??..

Are you serious?

Poorley worded. We told him to find clubs interested in him. He called you guys as he has been coached by Sticky.

Not interested, I guess Stick thought Keating was better.

I'm with you 100%.

Signing massive names is more likely to f**k us over than provide a net benefit.

We need to be going for up-and-comers, or potential stars on the outer with their current clubs - these players are always a risk, but also the only way we'll get any value out of bringing new players into the squad.

Value is everything when you're constrained by a salary cap.

As for no new signings, thank f**k we finally have an administration that doesn't bow to our legion of idiot fans and their rabid desire for meaningless symbolic short-term 'victories' (i.e. paying huge money to Kevin Kingston's retirement fund). I was so disappointed with the re-signings of Ben Smith and Fui last year. Clear desperation move, just like bringing Luke Burt back into first grade.

f**k our eyes.

Weren't you all up for signing Adam Blair?

Pou did include this in his post "potential stars on the outer with their current clubs" which would include adam blair

It does indeed. Unfortunately it also includes Ben Roberts, but as I said, these kinds of players are a risk. Roberts is one that didn't pay off, but how good would it have been if he'd played like he did in 2009.

The Club has a duty of care to NOT sign Corey Patterson, on his return to the NRL -as has been previously suggested...

Another big risk. The guy clearly has a lot of ability, and fills a specific roster need for us.

But there's definite potential for him to be a massive negative influence for us. Especially if we paid him big money.

I dare say he'd only be worth it if no other clubs were interested in him.

Isn't Sticky the same guy who got rid of De Gois for Corey Hughes?
