A contract doesn't mean shit. There have been countless examples that have proven this.

Only if both parties agree to break it - if they don't then the player is stuck or other arrangements are negotiated e.g.
- Tallis sat out a year
- Lyons had to go to England as we refused to allow him join another club
- SBW had to pay the dogs nearly $1m
- Tim sheens still being paid
- we had to negotiate arrangement with Wigan for ham hock
- broncos are paying compensation for barba to the dogs

Just a few examples where contracts do mean something

f**k him .... if they offer him the job and he wants it then let him go .... and get someone who wants to be here .... simple

Couldn't agree more. However what happened to his plan/vision? All too hard or is the money on offer from the Raiders just too good ?

Yep - fair call.

These are examples of where the terms of a contract have been enforced. I guess it would have been more accurate to say that loyalty is less prevalent rather than "contracts don't mean shit".

these r the few exmples where people really gave a shit .... is it really worth it? .... what happens when we go, "nope you can't go til u pay us $500K" - and canberra/ricky go, "f**k that" ..... then we are stuck with a merkin who doesn't want to be here .... great!

Yep also more like "do you want someone that doesn't want to be there"

Victorious Stuart remains tight-lipped over Eels future

Parramatta coach Ricky Stuart had the chance to end speculation about his future - but didn't. So while he lamented the speculation as being "unfair" on the Eels, it will continue.

But it could be over as early as next week. With speculation about a move to Canberra intensifying, Stuart said he would address the issue of his future after his club's season ends - on Sunday against Newcastle.

With the Eels' 26-22 win over St George Illawarra placing further pressure on Dragons coach Steve Price, Stuart largely dodged the issue of his own future, saying: "There's a lot of speculation about it. The club, the players more so ... every day there's something in the paper, and I don't want any more speculation about me. I'd rather be here tonight talking about the win. It's something that we haven't been able to talk about much lately.

"I'd like to have some positive press for a change. I'd prefer to talk about the win."But asked if he could end the speculation about his future, Stuart said: "I'll talk about it after the season's done. I want a week there where we can go and move into Newcastle with a preparation where we don't have to be worrying about what's in the papers. I mean, it's unfair on the players. I don't want to talk about it, because I want the players to be able to read about a good win, the team spirit they showed, the camaraderie that's still in the group.

"That's more important than anything else at the moment."
The Eels certainly showed fight, especially without their key fullback Jarryd Hayne and having lost their last match 64-4 against Melbourne. "We were pretty embarrassed walking in here, and we needed to leave better," Stuart said.

"That was important. Individually, we all knew, from the coach right through to the players, that we wanted to correct last week's performance, because we were embarrassed. We got our pride dented last week and it was important that we tried to show that there is some pride in the team. It's been a very tough year. It's hard going, but that puts a little bit of joy in your life."

Price's team has now lost six matches in a row - a record stretch for the merger."We're a proud footy club," Price said. "I expected better, the playing group expected better. We came here with a plan. We had great preparation - it's hard at the moment. We've got a lot of young guys who've been thrust into first grade who most probably weren't quite ready at that time, but they're going to reap dividends down the track, especially next year.

"We're learning a valuable lesson at the moment. It is hard."
The Dragons' loss to the wooden spooners was even more surprising given they led 12-0 after 15 minutes.

"It wasn't good enough," Price said. "They were clearly the better team. It's not one of our better performances. We're in a tough spot at the moment, we're in a bit of a flat spot ... it is hard to take at the moment."

Those comments in the article above all but confirms it, if he was staying here he'd top off our win bu saying he's staying next year

That is what I am thinking,

. Stuart said: "I'll talk about it after the season's done. What bullshit !!! All he would have to say is " I am committed to the eels, I aren't going to raiders as I have a contract here which I will see out" done , the papers would have nothing else to talk about but they now still do as he won't commit.

Exactly. If he committed publicly before the Newcastle game wouldn't the team be even more united and be in a better frame of mind to win ?

The gig is up Sticky, just f**king go already.

He has already told the playing group he will stay.
I'm still told as of tonight he is staying.

In other words 'I want to see out the last game before I take off because once I announce I'm leaving all the boys I sacked and most of those I didn't are gonna be dirty on me, which would make a last week of training difficult'

Ricky to be a no-show on Mad Monday.

My biggest concern is it seems he and Hayne have a close relationship, Hayne even commented when re-signing that he only signed for 2 more yrs as that was when Ricky was signed til and he wanted to re-evaluate when a coaching decision was made. Whilst I don't think Hayne would go to Canberra with Ricky, is there a chance those Dogs rumours are a little more than rumours??

That's great but why is he conducting himself this way? Just publicly state that you are committed. There is no point in fueling the fire, even for a ego maniac like Stuart.

It's also good politics from Ricky, in terms of making sure the Board and all it's stupid f**king factions understand that he can walk elsewhere if they don't pull their heads in and stop the leaking and destabilising. His lack of confirmation is not necessarily evidence he will go imo - it's probably evidence that he is trying to manage his relationship with the Board members, to be in line with how he wants it to be for the next year or two.

I missed this article the other day - http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport...epartment-review/story-fniabng6-1226707918953. Implies that Ricky had to talk with one of the Directors who was not showing him the faith we should heading into season two.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal at least one newly elected Eels board member, Peter Serrao, recently urged an independent review of the club’s coaching structure, following three consecutive years of failure.

Smith and another ex-Eels coach, Michael Hagan, were raised as candidates to run the review.

In the role for less than a year, Stuart was disappointed when he learned about the proposal and is believed to have spoken with Serrao.

 at Hagan being a candidate to review anything...

How can he be considering anything if he is under contract ? Everyone knows my feeling about him but seriously does a contract mean anything these days ?

Noooooo...not worth the paper they are written on..
Every coaching appointment should be a yearly contract, sealed with a hand shake...
Jack Gibson, Michael Cronin operated on hand shake deals...If it is good enough for them, it should be good enough for some of these 'pie eaters' posing as footballers and coaches these days. Prima Donnas....

I will say it again, he will come out of this poorly, will probably try and blame the club and board issues, but that is friggin weak as water

When a club places its faith in you as an individual , in rebuilding and attracting players, it a shithouse response if he goes

I agree with Avenger, if that is what you think of our club,. go already
