I don't care if they are from our past or beamed back from 200 years into the future. The ONLY criteria that should be considered is "can they get the job done". Period. We can't keep throwing money at longshots & hoping for the best.

Would Brian Smith bring us a premiership? History says no. Would Brian Smith build the club back into a professional, competitive unit that would have good coaches lining up to take over? You bet.

WOE

firstly NO OTHER CLUB wants brian smith. the other candidates aren't "long shots" because they're ALL preferred over brian smith as targets.

secondly, the environment we have now is more toxic than it ever has been. they're different conditions that someone like him would be working with, and someone like him would only compound that cancer

I think that is the only thing against JT being appointed if they have that mindset.

it's a shame because i think he is a good operator, but the club is suffering and the club is greater than any one person. sacrifices like these have to be made

Ricky leaving is great news for Parra ... you get rid of him without a payout, and start afresh now (instead of 2 more years of pain). You guys should be ecstatic !!!

As many others have remarked, Ricky is a poor coach, and an even worse person. He never leaves clubs in a better state than when he started, it always ends in tears. Good riddance.

If Ricky was the right man for the job of rebuilding us he wouldn't be making the excuses he has been.

His comments are a true indication the job was beyond him. I expected the team to be showing some technical improvement over the year even if results weren't going our way. Besides Haynes improved fullback play I have not noticed any technical improvements.

I would be willing to try Taylor next, with the possibility of calling in Smith for guidance in regards to the off field stuff if JT thought it would help.

The rugby league community (not just Eels fans) are getting stuck into Stuart on social media.

Many are quoting what he said about Izzy and Papalli when he used words like "dishonourable" and "greedy".

Worse, is that he may have triggered a multitude of get out clauses.

Board needs to hire the CEO and let the CEO hire the coach.
Just like the real world.

Actually in the real world the CEO has zip to do with it.

Canberra & Nth Qld are both looking for coaches. Both have formed sub-committees to assess applicants.

That would be a sub-committee that recommends to the CEO who then makes the final decision.

The Raiders sub-committee was a ruse - a typical public service type sub-committee, where the main guy puts his people together to come up with the answer that he already knows and wants to hear.

JR decided who was getting the job weeks ago.

That would be a sub-committee that recommends to the CEO who then makes the final decision.

No, a sub-committee that recommends to the CEO, who then makes the final decision, once he is told what the decision is by the Chairman.

Congrats Parra...

You guys only had to put up with his shit for one season. Not going to lie, next year will be tough - you need to rebuild from the mess he left (which is even bigger than that of Kearney IMO). I suspect you guys will improve to 13th-15th.

But from there, you should see an upward trend.

Wishful thinking ? Which club operates like that in the NRL ? You think the Roosters CEO does anything without Nick's say so ?

Ben Ikin certainly said last night that his (Cowboys) board make all the decisions.

When has the CEO at our club (post Fitzy) or Balmain, Storm, Broncos, Sharks, Manly etc ever had the call ?

To me if looked as though Ricky lost the dressing room at how he revealed the unwanted players for 2014.
Team looked disjointed from that point on.
Senior players may have spoken to management or Ricky himself and he realized it was all over and jumped ship.
