Ricky Stuart quits Parramatta Eels for Canberra Raiders job

No doubt we will have plenty of stories while chooks and cows are still in the finals linking Taylor and Henry to our coaching role, with plenty of quotes from both denying there has been any contact.

I'm very disappointed in Stuart for leaving a half done job the way he did. I don't have a problem with him leaving and wantin to be near family if his kid has special needs as I believe her needs outweigh those of any sports club. It does irk me though that with all the speculation floating around he didn't just come clean and sort it out straight away so the club could sort itself out ASAP. If we were a chance of making the finals then fair enough to keep it under wraps but given we were set for the spoon ages ago then that's when it should've been sorted as the players would want to know who they'd be playing for.

Maybe it is jt or Henry and the club is respecting their space at their clubs while they're still in finals.

there was some talk we could get a package deal with henry and peter parr as ceo that sounds good

what's Peter Parr's current role at the cowboys? .... would he in any way have been involved in the decision to not retain Henry? ... if so would we want the possibility of hiring dudes with a bit of annamosity from one to the other???

Well what did we achieve by letting Kearney go (not saying he is a good coach or not) apart from dropping around $300k by paying him out.

Wow, he has certainly left you guys in the poo.

Most of the posters here backed him right to the end.

From my reckoning there have been about 12 players offloaded by his cull, with about 4 NRL quality signings; that will put a lot of pressure on the players called into the NRL squad. Looking at the results of your NYC team; could be a long road to hoe in 2014.

If I was Neil Henry, I wouldn't go near the place. He should wait (have a year off) and see how Saints and Wests travel in 2014; as there might be a job, with some light at the end of tunnel, if their current coaches don't perform.

Unless Jarryd Hayne was on that list of 12 I can tell you now that whatever players were on that list they were no longer NRL quality players.

Im not going to be happy to see half or more of our signings/re-signings ending up at f*cking canberra. They would have to have some money to spend with no duggan, ferguson and to a lesser extent sandor earl.

I say if they want to go then F%&k off. None of the players that were bought whilst Stuart was here are that special anyway.

You guys need a coach with experience at managing a lot of islander style players

I'd suggest Steve folkes

Yes, because the polynesian coach who coaches an international team full of polynesians worked out so well for us.

I don't understand Canberra's logic. Why would u hire someone who has no integrity, who implements a slash and burn policy but doesn't put the fire out? Would the Raiders players respect him knowing full well he is a hypocrite.

Sounds like he would fit in quite well down at CanBra anyway.

We are the biggest rabble of a club. Wouldn't be surprised of the NRL have already had internal talks about booting Parra out of the comp (or forcing a merger). We'll spend the next 5 years getting the spoon with all the bullshit going on down there at Oconnell st.

So the 'Ricky camp' are out supporting him for this appalling treatment of our club, using family reasons.

Why did he take the Eels job on in the first place? He still had the Origin job, it was clearly obvious the Raiders job would become vacant sooner rather than later. In fact I'm sure Furner would've been punted had Stuart wanted the job last year.

What a shambles!

Ding dong the witch is dead.
Which old witch?
The Ricky witch.
Ding dong the Sticky witch is dead.

I was gutted when we signed the moron. Worst idea ever. I said I'd support him while he was here, but I held no real hope of things improving under his tenure.
Wasn't proved wrong - and happy to see him go.

For those saying "Ohhhh, but we needed stability" - perhaps, but you don't invest in stability if it is of the lowest common denominator. We've had back to back ridiculous coaching appointments. SK was a dreadful hire, but at least he came with some promise. We all knew Ricky was useless when we signed him, and the only thing more foolish than having him coach for 1 year would be having him coach for 2+. Thank goodness he let us of the hook, look forward to him detonating the Raiders.

I'm sure I read an article where Ricky said he was staying in Sydney because of the facilities available for his kid. This is an appalling cowardly dog act by Stuart. I am absolutely furious at the lies dished out to the supporters. I'm hoping that JT gets the job over Henry. It will only be seven years over due.

But going down this path essentially means 2014 is yet another write-off with a new coach taking control if a squad that is completely foreign to him.

Stuart is a crap coach, but I do belong to the train of thought that stability for a volatile club like ours is essential. He done f**ked us, bro.

That fat grub on Fox Ritchie was making every excuse under the sun for him, and his best bud Kent last night was as well. Amazing the good run this myth gets in the media.

He is an utter scumbag, and using his daughter is as low as you can get. What is the difference between this year and last year????

Stuart refused to accept the job until Dave was sacked. Raiders wouldn't sack Dave until Stuart accepted. Money was a factor, Eels offer blew ours out of the water. But yes, it was his job if he wanted it this year.

Only if your assumption is that we are built to contend in 2014, AND that Stuart would have delivered results.

I never thought he'd give us anything - I thought he might bring more effort and professionalism from the players, he doesn't even seem to have accomplished that.

2014 would have been a write-off continuing with Stuart, because he's rubbish. Being stable all the way down the toilet is a bad use of time. Putting in a new coach is a much better use of time.
We might not win the premiership, but it's a chance to actually make the "right" start.

And just because we started and failed twice in a row does NOT mean we shouldn't try and get it right again.

I must admit I am not surprised by this decision however I am disappointed.

IMHO the backbone of sustainable success in any organisation is stability, stability, stability and growth. And this stability is something that we are lacking big time.

While I have never thought that RS was the "best coach" available, I did have hope that he would stick around and provide a level stability for our up and coming players to grow into. He surely isn't/wasn't the worst coach available. And realistically, get together a good team of assistants and your head coach doesn't need to be the best tactician.

I am not going to get carried away with putting shit on Ricky for making the decision he did - we all have our own motivation and reasons for the life decisions we make and I am not walking in RS's shoes so who am I to judge him for his choices.

The hype about "I'm In - Are You?" was simply a marketing strategy used by the club and as RS was one of the most well recognised faces at the club, of course he was used for this, so I won't begrudge him that either.

Like some other posters on here, I will support the incoming coach whomever that is. I will support the Board, regardless of who they are (as long as they do what is right for the club) and regardless of what 'faction' they represent. And I will support the players that wear the Blue and Gold each and every week that I continue to breath - as long as they play with heart and commitment to the jersey they wear.

We will move on from this with yet another hard learnt lesson under our belt, but Jesus isn't that next premiership going to taste ever so much sweeter for the struggle to get it.

Go PARRA!!
