They do have ridiculous depth in the backrow which does make it an odd decision but bear in mind that they are also splitting with the Melbourne Storm in the NSW Cup and thus need to cover the slots in the second tier roster that Melbourne were filling.

In the end a contract is a contract and Masinamua can also cover the front-row, where Cronulla are skinnier for depth.
