We need a Ben Kennedy clone

Would it really matter who we had??

The game has become such a farce now. With uncle nick and Crowe behind there respective teams, we are just making up numbers. Our next lot of up and comers will just be signed up by other teams. We will be lucky to be amongst the top teams no matter which coach or players we sign.

The game truly has been destroyed.

I thought you were convinced that the Dogs and the Storm were cheating the cap? That'd at least help them beat that other cheaters.

It's pretty easy to look at the best few teams in a given year and say ' they must be cheating the cap b/c their team is better than the others'.

How did Manly beat Souths (or are Manly cheats too)?

I don't think I've ever mentioned the storm being over the cap this year.

I just heard in interesting rumour about uncle nick and player payments. Who knows what's true anymore.

Question for you Barry. If say Crowe had several offshore accounts, what's to stop him from paying any particular players or their mother money from the said account. Would the nrl have any power in auditing offshore accounts??????

My other question to you, you really believe the rorters are operating under an equal cap to other teams???

Jennings, LOD and SBW in one off season. Lol.

Zero power to audit those accounts, and if the player had the money paid into an overseas account (e.g. in British Virgin Islands, the Caymans) neither the NRL (nor the ATO) would have much chance of seeing the funds until an attempt to repatriate the $$$ was made (which could be after retirement). This sort of chicanery *could* theoretically be performed by any club...don't need to have Rusty involved. Just get a sponsor to set up the requisite accounts, and consider it a pension fund (note Shooey, I'm not suggesting anyone is actually doing this).

As we've discussed before, Rooters were either $300k or $400k below 2012 cap. And (they claim) that very few of their players had their salary linked to cap increases, so when the cap went up by $800k, more of this was disposable by them relative to many other clubs. Then, Panthers are eating $200k of Jennings. They also relieved themselves of Anasta, Symonds, BJ Leilua, Cherrington, Mose Masoe, Ant Mitchell, Takairaingi, Tasi and sundry muppets. So, no, I don't see conclusive evidence of cheating. That doesn't mean they aren't....but anyone could be cheating.

I read some where a while ago that the AFL got it into their bargaining agreement with their players association that all players must produce their group certificates for salary cap purposes. The players got relaxed 3rd party sponsorship rules as a result.

Might be a solution.

you can have multiple group certs. player could leave one out. and money in Brown paper bags will not show up

no but they can audit the players acount

i don't think NRL players can have their personal accounts audited - which is why it is so hard to catch rorters ..... i think the AFL have agreements to allow their players to be audited, but not league (unless it has changed very recently)

what accounts...don't think it would make a huge difference? I can drive a truck through any system that requires the identification of players domestic bank accounts (from the perspective of the NRL's ability to audit...not statutory authorities). It would not be difficult to hide the ultimate beneficiary of a trust, for instance, from the NRL (it would be harder to do so from statutory authorities). If players are happy to leave funds in trust til retirement it would be very difficult to detect (by the NRL), if payments to the trust are not made directly by the NRL club.
