Confirming Lowrie's release

http://www.thewarriors.com.au/news-display/Lowrie-released-on-compassionate-grounds/85798

Would be a strange signing by the Bronco's if that is where he is going. They will have to release a few players to fit everyone into their top 25. Maybe the Parker to Panthers rumour is true. Or more likely the Hoffman to Dogs one

Hoffman to dogs one would be more likely. If we release Parker to go to the Panthers the Broncos management and coach would be lynched.

Broncos picking up Lowrie makes no sense. They already have an all rep back row plus another on the bench. Not sure on their depth, but they don't appear to be in need of a defensive workhorse.

More Warriors on the outer before this one is over IMO. Not sure what the plan is (if there is one) but so far I'm not overly concerned other than the sudden vanishing depth.

Plenty of backrow stocks with Glenn, Thaiday, Gillett, Parker, Oates, Dodds, Slyney and Stagg. Signing Lowrie isn't even depth signing really. Unless it's because Glenn, Gillett, Oates and Stagg can all fill in out in the centres to cover severe backline injuries like we had this year.

Cam Smith will be signed with the Broncos for 2015 before a ball is kicked in anger in 2014.

The Broncos will be paying him massive overs into his mid 30s.

No thoughts that Lowrie could be gold coast bound? He might be heading to Brisbane to live, but the gc isn't all that far down the road.

I at least hope that's the case, anyway...

If we get Cam Smith in 2015, he would still be worth every cent of 1 million dollars for 2 or 3 years. He brings more to a team than Greg Inglis does, even in his 30's. Broncos side in 2014 is definite top 8 side, maybe even pushing top 4. Add Cam Smith in 2015 to the same side it's a title chance straight away. Cam Smith is like Lockyer, still worth every cent till the day he retires.

I wouldn't be so certain that Cam Smith will be playing at good value for money if he is on $1m in 2015 onwards. He will get that money thrown at him for sure, but I think when his time comes it will happen quickly. He hasnt really had a break as a footy player in around a decade. If he retired from rep footy after the world cup it would go a long way to helping him be near his best into his mid 30s.

Im sure he will still be at first grade level into his mid 30's. But taking up that much of the cap would be a risk for a bloke his age.

It's a risk sure, but not a huge one. If we were talking Billy Slater then the risk is much much higher.

Really ?....playing hooker at age 30 plus is a tough gig.

Take him if you want and we will sign 2-3 middle to top tier players to give Storm depth.

Hoppa to Souths in the Tele today. Doubt they have the salary cap space though

For an 800k player? If he wants to go anywhere else he'll have to halve his salary, supposing that figure is true

That story is from the Telegraph, probably the only true part is that Hoppa snr. wanted to know if Brad Arthur would coach. The rest they made up to make a story.
