The South Sydney Rabbitohs are pleased to confirm the signing of forward Joe Picker for the 2014 season.

Picker, 25, has been a member of the Canberra Raiders NRL squad since making his debut in 2007, playing in 110 First Grade Games scoring 20 tries.

Picker, who stands 190cm tall and weighs 100kg, has played representative games for the Junior Kangaroos, NSW Under 19’s and the Prime Minister’s XIII in 2008, scoring a try in a 54-30 defeat of Papua New Guinea.

Picker is a versatile forward and will add size and aggression to the Rabbitohs pack.

Rabbitohs Head Coach Michael Maguire is looking forward to working with Picker over the coming season.

“I was lucky enough to coach Joe as a Junior at the Raiders and I’ve seen first-hand the dedication he has towards his football,” Rabbitohs Head Coach Michael Maguire said.

I’m looking forward to seeing him bring that competitive edge and the experience he’s gained in his 110 First Grade Games.

“He’s a great person and I’m looking forward to him helping us grow the culture here at Souths.”

Parramatta sign David Gower

The Dyldam Parramatta Eels are proud to announce the signing of former Tigers, Dragons and Sea Eagles forward David Gower on a one-year deal for 2014.Gower comes to the club fresh from playing in a Grand Final with Manly, where he was called into the squad following an injury to Richard Fa’aso.“I was lucky enough to play in the Grand Final last season and playing with such an experienced team at Manly is something I am very grateful for. Hopefully I can bring some of those positives to Parramatta,” Gower said. The move west was inevitably a simple decision for the 28 year-old, who also had a stint playing for the Salford Reds in the UK Super League in 2006 and 2007. Gower turned down a two-year deal in England to link with the Eels in 2014.“I had a few options overseas but this came up and I am taking it as a real opportunity. I am really excited about turning up to training on Monday ready to rip in with the boys," he said.“My wife and I grew up out west so moving back is not too different for me.""My wife and four-month-old daughter Amelia will be moving to the Baulkham Hills area as we have some family there, and hopefully settling long term.”The competition for spots in the Blue and Gold front row is shaping as a fierce one, with Gower the latest addition to the club’s big men, which includes Tim Mannah, Fuifui Moimoi, Mitchell Allgood, Darcy Lussick and new signing, English international Lee Mossop.“My major goal is to secure a spot in the 17, but that will not be a walk in the park. There is some great competition for spots at the Eels right now and I am going to have to prove myself starting Monday.”Monday, November 18 will be Gower’s first day training with the Eels, where he will once again get the opportunity to link with Head Coach Brad Arthur, who he trained under last season with the Sea Eagles.“Obviously I worked with Brad at Manly and am really looking forward to reuniting with him at Parramatta as the Head Coach. I got on well with him because he was always straight up and honest and took time to show me the little things I could do to improve my game.”

Is Kyle O'Donnell any good? I remember he had some fairly big reviews a while ago but I've never really noticed him.

Happy with the Batiste signing - as has been mentioned in other threads - it's nice to know there's at least someone else to compete for our hooker spot.

Kyle played 20's at the sharks and then went to knights and then to penrith and now Canberra. 4 clubs in as many years.

At he sharks we thought he would kick on but hasn't done much since then.

Hmm, doesn't bode well.

Ah well, maybe Batiste will be an upgrade on what we've got at least.
