I've seen photos from training. He doesn't look fat.

Well there are merkins who are in a better position than you to make that assessment. They said he was fat. Tonga is one of them.

"It's obvious he has come back overweight but he is actually looking pretty sharp now," Eels centre Willie Tonga said.

Yes but based on what you merkins say, it's Ok for him to go off on Friday and put the weight on again. Worry about it sometime in January eh ?

Sorry, it's not what I call "professional".

I agree he doesn't seem very professional, and he would be an idiot to come back fat after New Year. The first trial is on the 8th of February.

Looking unfit never stopped Cliff Lyons or Jason Smith being some of the best attacking players ever.
Perhaps Sandow should take up smoking

I remember when Smithy sent Widders home for being too fat. That worked well for us.
i thought it was John Simon that Brian sent to the fat farm.

From memory it was widders and Blake green that were smashing everyone in cardio work all through their pre-seasons with parra.

I think it happened when Smith realised that he couldn't tell Simon and Widders apart, and thought that didn't augur well for the prospects of his halfback.

Pretty sure it was the supersub, he had some sort of addiction to ice cream, could've been the 04 preseason?

Why does everyone care about sandow-Dont most want Kelly as halfback?
Im confused why everyone is caring when they moaned that Kelly should start.

I for one think its good he put on weight.Means he was having fun and a good time -Maybe even relaxing. Sounds like he has some mental issues. Maybe he was getting over his demons and focusing solely on that first. A few run around the oval ,some sit ups and off the junk food would be a lot easier than dealing with the crap he has gone thru lately.

Both of those players didn't have MAJOR flaws in their games. Lyons was a legend of the game and Smith a fantastic player. Sandow wouldn't be qualified to lace their boots at this stage in his career.

My opinion, for what its worth, is that we are absolutely no chance of a top 8 sport with Kelly at halfback, but we might be an outside chance with Sandow in the 7.

I have to agree with both of these comments.

For all any of us know, Ricky and the trainers at the time, sent Sandow off to rehab to get his head in order and bugger what shape he came back in physically. Just because Arthur didn't know of it and approve of it, doesn't mean Sandow did anything wrong. He has ample time to get his body back to an acceptable fitness level before needed.

Of our number 7's, Sandow is head and shoulders above anyone else at the club at this point in time for both skill and experience. Keep in mind, most of you merkins gave him numerous MOM points at the start of 2013 season. If he has his head in the right place and gets the support from players around him that most number 7's need, he will be fine for us next year and will be a lot better option than Kelly (who I like, but don't rate as a walk-up start to the 7 jersey).

Not sure that we were inundated with people wanting Kelly to start, he is what he is, a back up half, couldn't get a start at the Storm when Cronk and Widdop were out, they played Kostjasyn who was a converted hooker/backrower

That is water under the bridge, we need Sandow to fire to threaten anyone, the coach has history with Kelly at Storm NYCV, but at the end of the day Sandow should start if he is right

Nah bullshit. If the Roosters can win with Pearce and Maloney, we can win with Sandow and Norman.

It's our forwards that will make or break our season.

I believe Kelly was first choice for 5/8 in front of Widdop but injured himself in the trials and the rest is history. He didn't have much luck with injuries at the storm.

Interesting Arthur also signed Kelly's halves partner from his 2009 under 20 winning side in foran

I thought Chrissy was the smallest dwarf in the club.
