Yep. I think they very different types of player, despite the fact that they both play fullback. Dugan certainly plays a more limited role, but where I disagree I guess is in their relative influence of a game/team. The importance of Hayne's broader set of abilities reduces (IMHO) at the rep level because that range of skills is more likely to be found across the rest of the team too. This is why I don't think that it is necessarily a bad selection to play Dugan at No. 1 in SoO (obviously contingent on form/fitness etc). I've seen a lot of Dugan play, and while he's a complete f**khead he is a remarkably good and consistent footballer.

If we had jt, cronk or dce in the halves maybe you would have a point but with guys like Pearce leading the charge for the blues Hayne is needed to create those chances. Even so how much more dangerous were qld with Inglis back at fullback compared to slater? Hayne is similar, even if he doesn't create chances with his ball playing what he does do is create room for his outside men because of his array of skills while ssomeone like dugan is easier to shut down because he will always run and can barley pass. Hayne is superior then dugan in every aspect of the game as a fullback and he should start there every series if fit.

He's fast enough for fullback. That's why he plays fullback.

So nsw has to move their best back and a very good player in josh Morris misses out because of Dugan's limitations?

Dugan is a very good player but he isn't as good as Hayne and he's on par but not better than the Morris bros, Jennings etc so why does this bloke have the red carpet laid out for him? He hasn't enjoyed much success at any level, his games so far at origin level haven't showed he has that special something that can shake Queensland. So why is this guy a certainty?

I imagine that a barley pass could be a useful skill. I agree that Hayne is a better player than Dugan at most if not all aspects of the game. That does not automatically mean that he should always be selected ahead of him at fullback in SoO. If the availability of other players is such that the overall quality of the team on the field is better if you can squeeze both players into the starting 13, then there's an argument for doing that. And in that case Hayne's versatility means that he's likely to play in a different position. I'm not saying that it is always the right thing to do. I know it's against the forum rules to actually try to assess players objectively, rather than with one blue eye and other yellow.

I think that the best back line NSW has fielded in recent times was game 1 2013.

The forgotten man in this discussion is josh Morris! I think he did an excellent job up against Inglis this series and I don't how Dugan is that good of a football player to displace NSW's best back and push J Morris out of the team completely?

i agree - morris has done very well for NSW in recent times ... if we are picking our best 5 outside backs/fullback, I'd certainly prefer him in the team to dugan

Why can't Dugan play out of position?

Why does the cruiser drinker even need to be in the team?

If fergo doesn't go off on the drink with Dugan to celebrate getting in the team for game 2, and Hayne stays fit the Blues win this year.
Now if Fergo can't get back to where he was for game 1, we have Hoppa back who can go onto that wing.

1. Hayne
2. Hoppa
3. Jennings
4. Morris
5. Morris

I dunno mate, we'll see what they do come Origin time.

Personally I think Josh Morris and Dugan are about the same level of player - good enough for Origin when their club side is going well, but not a walkup start.

Dugan is a very good player but he isn't as good as Hayne and he's on par but not better than the Morris bros, Jennings etc so why does this bloke have the red carpet laid out for him?

Does he? He's only played three Origin matches, and only one as first choice (and that's when Sticky was trying to buy the loyalty of a few up-and-comers so he could get back into club coaching.)

Hayne and Stewart are ahead of Dugan for the NSW fullback spot.

He hasn't enjoyed much success at any level, his games so far at origin level haven't showed he has that special something that can shake Queensland. So why is this guy a certainty?

Who said he is?

You shut your shit mouth. Hayne plays for Australia.

Edit: Just realised children read this site, and those f**ken little merkins would never see any bad words on the internet. Let's keep it that way.

Morris is over rated. Hayne isn't as good as you blokes think either.

Haynes has ranked in the top 5 players in the new power rank in the last 2 years and only behind Inglis compared to other fullbacks. He has been very consistent over the last 2-3 years and only injuries have held him back. Yes he is that good.
