Jesus. Souffs are going to get torn up on the edges this year. Shit wingers and Reddy didn't do anything at the Tigers. Walker though I rate highly.

I'm sure Panthers would release Wes Naiqama for the Souths. He won't figure into our 2014 season, and would be a perfect replacement for Tuqiri in the 20 or so games he misses through injury.

Lots of players do nothing at the Tigers, or rather the Tigers seem to do nothing with their players. Reddy was quite good with the Eels. Reddy and Champion are both City-Country quality outside backs and Goodwin is an international. Walker is one of the most promising upcomers. All these players have a 10% missed tackle rate last year which is quite good. I think if they manage to be on the field together we will be quite tight defensively on the edges unlike last year

I was actually about to edit my post as I forgot about Champion and Goodwin  Reddy and Tuqiri will easily nothing more than cover for them.

Tuquri is more washed up than the dishes I just did. And I hope they get someone to sign the contract for him otherwise he'll be out 8 weeks or so with a broken wrist.

That's provided he doesn't trip over walking into headquarters and rule himself out for the season.

I've eaten tougher biscuits.

I reckon the guy who typed up the press release would have been pissing himself laughing as he was typing it. Talk about spin.

When I read the email, I did a quick check of the calendar to make sure it wasn't 1st of April. He can play in our nines team and mark up on Freddy. The two of them are almost as old as each other. We would have been better off trying to get Wendell Sailor out of retirement.

Oh well, it's done now. Lets hope we didn't spend much on him and that we don't see him in first grade at all.

Could have been worse. Could have signed Anasta.

I think Reddy will find some good form like Goodwin has, but Tuquiri is just too old to recapture anything he used to be able to do

Lol city country standard is nothing to cry home about, FFS Mitchell Allgood made city country. Goodwin played decent when the team was winning but was exposed badly later in the year, Jamie Lyon destroyed him in that semi final which was probably the difference on the night, BJ Leilua and Callum Watkins then tore him a new one during the world cup. Dylan Walker has talent but he's 19 year old and still had a few question marks. Inglis aside that souths backline is surely one of the weakest in the NRL

City Country is a step above a regular first grader, not Origin but with the potential to get there.

Goodwin arguably won two out of three contests with Lyon, who many think is the best center in the game. To be fair on Goodwin, he had Merritt, and McQueen next to him who both dropped form significantly and Sutton who was injured. DCE was the one running riot and Merritt the one breaking defensive formation for Wolfman to capitalise. Goodwin was just caught in the middle. Overall I rate him highly especially in defence but he needs to learn to pass better. Might be better on the wing

What question marks over Walker?

Probably on a small deal and will need to perform to get a spot. I don't see the big deal.

This.

On paper, things look pretty dire for South Sydney but GI is a champion player and his ability will off-set a lot of the issues out-wide. I also don't think fans are paying enough credit. Nathan Merritt may not be a superstar winger but at club level he's a very handy player to have & Dylan Walker looks extremely promising - if he can get himself sorted off the field, I suspect he'll be even better for the run last year.

It's just a matter of managing injuries and whether they can get one of the young bucks to stand up. Say if, Reddy/Champion/Goodwin/Tuqiri can hold up one spot and if one of their up and comers can make the leap into first grade whether it's Gray or Johnston they'll be right.

Mitchell Allgood isn't that bad tbh. He's solid.

City country is about filling the numbers a lot of the time, especially with the city team, I mean guys like Mitch Allgood and Kris Keating have made it in the past despite being fringe first grade standard at best, same goes for Reddy in particular and to a lesser extent Champion who really hasn't shown the form of 3 years ago. Let's just agree to disagree in regards to Goodwin, I think he's average at best and when the team is on the backfoot he tends to come up short.

You aren't wrong, in any case I believe that all of Champion, Reddy and Goodwin are good without being great. And are all astute defensively. Champion does need to rebuild, too many injuries have been a detriment. He is getting his first uninterrupted off season at a top club so hopefully that's a recipe for success. Walker has the potential to be a star. No backline is full of stars. Two to three great players mixed with solid first graders is usually the limit.

We are slightly better off in the backs than last year for mine, but Champion staying uninjured, Walker stepping up and a potential youngster stepping up will be key components of whether our outside backs can be better than last year. I would say the defence of our outside backs was our achilles heel and Maguire has actually looked for backs who can defend the line

All things considered though, dire isn't the right word.
