Have Victoria done Australian cricket a massive disservice by playing Fawad Ahmed in front of this kid?

IMO they have.

Unless CA gave the directive.

He looks very , very promising. Obviously it's early days though.

He's only played 2 first class matches , hopefully he plays Victorias remaining 4 shield games this season & then a whole shield season next year.

I think Fawad Ahmed may have played his last game for Australia.

I haven't seen much of him but the ball he got Broad with was a great delivery. The commentators seemed to think he was the second coming of Maxwell.

Looks a top prospect, and only 20. I hope they don't rush him.

The only thing our bowling squad is really missing is a top quality wrist spinner.

I do hope he has to earn his spot and isn't gifted it though.

We keep losing sight of how good Nathan Lyon actually is, he has earned the right to be first picked and should not be displaced just because there's a kid who can bowl over the wrist.

Could be an opportunity though if Faulkner can crack the test side as an allrounder could mean we could use the kid as a second spinner. What he does prove is how many international cricketers struggle against quality leg spin.

In his three spells there were quite a few long hops and full tosses. He's not there yet, he'd get eaten alive at test level with his present level of development.

I think that he is being brought along perfectly. He's had a taste of international cricket through these t20's, I'd send him off to South Africa as part of the squad but I wouldn't pick him in tests just yet. Get him used to being in the squad, maybe play him in the odd one day or t20 on a good track. Bring him back and give him a full shield season and then we blood him in tests.

Yeah I'm not saying straight away. He has to earn his place in the side especially when it is winning. I think he did alright, he was trying to vary his length a lot which is something he wouldn't likely do in the longer format of the game.

I would wait at least after the India series before even considering. They are one side who could really take him apart. Would love to see him play in the T20s in South Africa though, he could really cause them problems and he is way better than Doherty.

Absolutely, Nathan Lyon is completely underrated by most Australian cricket fans. Muirhead has the potential to be better than Lyon but he isn't there yet. Give him two or three seasons in Shield and let him develop his game first before bringing him into test cricket. If he comes in too soon they will ruin him.

No way, why take him to play a couple of T20's when they are being played at the same time as the last round of Shield cricket. If you want him to become a test cricketer he needs to play the longer form and not just T20 matches. He needs some more variety too IMO

Agreed much rather see him play first class cricket instead of the 20/20 slog fest. His game will not improve playing that rubbish.

I wouldn't' send him to RSA, he needs lots of 4 day cricket for mine.

Needs to play out our Shield season and then off to County Cricket.

Which is why it's so disappointing he's only played one shield game.

His development could be further along by now.

Yeah, the advantage of playing him in T20Is is it opens up his eligibility for county cricket.

They recently changed the rules of county cricket so if you aren't EU qualified you can only play as a county overseas player if you've played international cricket in 3 years previous (guys who got in before they brought in this rule like Klinger are exempt).

So that's why he should get the occasional T20I, so he can then play county cricket.

Warne made his test debut less than 12 months after his FC debut.

McGrath had only played 8 FC matches.

I'm not comparing their talents but sometimes top prospects don't have to fully earn their spots.

Wouldn't these games qualify him for the next 3 years?

If he's ever going to be good enough he will have played test cricket by then imo.
