Well it beats, 'We're shit and we're gonna lose all season", I suppose.

Spot on Ram. I hated the defeatist attitude by that pretender.

I however suspect that it was said to bide some time and preserve his job before the infamous overhead public projector 'you have no future' slide show.

The best thing the club can do now is hold firm with a coach that actually wants to be there and appears to have a pretty decent plan.

BA has had little to do with this roster, we need to support him

He is definitely not an easy touch, was with a couple of players on school visits all afternoon yesterday, they know he is an angry merkin who wants nothing but 100%.

Think we will actually improve through the season as his methods on reward and effort take root

Couldn't agree more. There is an art in telling people effectively that they need to improve.

The more I hear or read about BA the more I feel like he is te perfect fit for our club.
He has obviously got the players respect, and he is so passionate about our club.
This is the type of coach players will play for, the type of coach we have needed for some time now.

I also think he is the type of coach who will attract big names to our club, I'm looking forward to the recruitment he does for next year.

Seward and Hayne having not so subtle opinions on the disaster that was Ricky Stuart. References to wining expectations and genuine honesty.
Well done boys.
Stuart. Grrrrrrrrrr. I detest that imposter.

I feel the hate for Ricky Stuart, too. But you've got to admit, he told Matt Keating he wasn't wanted - and then went out and bought another hooker; and he told Ben Roberts he wasn't wanted - and went out and bought Corey Norman. I've got a feeling most of his other recruits might be duds, but we got the best end of the bargain, I reckon. Stuart tarnished his reputation, we got rid of two duds that had been driving us to despair for a while, and we got a good hooker and a good five-eight. I'm happy. Can't wait to play Canberra, but. :)

I like the bit where they're looking at a Peats, Kelly, Norman, Hayne combination. That sounds good to me.

it makes you wonder though if he stayed on and really punted half the team who would be playing for us now?
a bunch of reserve graders from other teams or even worse what if all the unwanted players still contracted until 2015 decided they were going to see out their contracts?

Agreed. I was pissed that Stuart signed and re-signed a bunch of players with out clauses, but the fact none of them exercised those clauses means that Stuart's time at the club was overall a positive.

On field results are fleeting, but we are now well set up through all grades. Stuart continued the difficult work of overhauling our playing staff, and he did it fairly quickly. Good on him.

Yeah Stuart may have done the dodgy on us but I'm a bit over it by now. He made the right call at the time in regards to getting rid of the dead wood players and we'll be better for it in the long run. Pretty much all of the players he cut are the players us forum members have been complaining about for the bast few years. At least he left the club in a better spot then since he arrived, which hasn't happened since Brian Smith was coach.

Any coach and nearly everyone here would have axed those 2 players. Doesn't make Stuart a genius. Norman and Peats are still a gamble and are basically untried and a risk. It's not like we signed Cameron Smith and Kieran Foran.

It's a shame our bad results aren't fleeting. Overhaul my arse. He just god rid of the players whose contracts were up. If he was any good he would have been able to offload players that are sponging our cap like Harrison, Smith and Paulo.

Agree however this season hasn't even started yet. Theoretically he has left us in a better position. Nothing has happened yet. The best thing he did was leave. That I am grateful for because in a few years he will not be coaching anywhere.

It sounds strange to say but having Ricky last season may be the season we look back on and think "thank you" he got rid of all our dead-wood.
He was the coach we needed at the time to make those hard calls. We now have the right coach to put everything back together.

You can't just magically get rid of players on contracts, you can offer thn around but as they were dead-wood at the club running last, I'm pretty sure no club would be willing to take them for us.

Yeah, top 17 players whose contracts were up, and unwanted anywhere else. How good do players go when their futures are completely up in the air? If we'd re-signed them (and not tried to palm off half the team) we would have won a few more games. We probably would have avoided the spoon.

But Sticky ripped the Bandaid off in one go. Blam! It's not his fault he couldn't get rid of some players still under contract; it's not up to the coach, it's up to the player and the other clubs.

If I remember correctly you were one of the people on here who gave it to me when I very early on gave it to him and labelled him a pretender.

Apologies if I am mistaken.

Doesn't help when you rip their confidence, don't believe in them and after round 1 tell the world that bad days are coming, then further humiliate them in front of their peers. Stuart is a f**kwit of a human.

They're both a gamble but they're easily better than what we had before. Peats is no world beater but you don't have to be to be better than Keating. He looked sharp in the Nine's and actually pick up and pass quickly, and also has some dart out of dummy half too as opposed to slow motion Keating. Agree with you on Norman, but still think he's better and also younger than Ben Roberts so just adding some more attacking options is only a good thing.

To be fair, he did get rid of players who were still under contract... like Maitua, Ryan, and Blair for example. He was never going to be able to get rid of all of them.

Yeah you're right. I like the fact one of the first things he did when he arrived was sign up our best juniors though, something the club's neglected for a while. But only time will tell whether they were the right ones or not.
