FFS we are a premiership threat and that's why our cap is under duress. Our squad is markedly better than many teams and as good as, if not better than the real contenders. We have 3 current internationals who are the best in their positions; and at the top of their game in FIFITA Louie and gal. Then we have Carney, Gordon and Graham who are genuine origin quality players, and they are also playing well. Throw in some very reliable and capable first graders in Ryan/Gibbs/Taga/Robson/Ayshford. We should be aiming for a premiership. The window is NOW. Yes we are short on a gun 9 and a freak outside back, but no team is complete and let's remember we are not carrying any complete hacks.

Agree. But feel our squad is forward heavy. Only 1 strike player compared to our rivals who have more. Slightly disagree on whether Ayshford is a capable first grader. He was a hack last year.

Don't agree our squad is better than any of the real contenders or that we are a contender anyway. My prediction 6-9.

"Running like a Datsun".

You gotta be kidding me. That "Datsun" went deep in to the finals last year. Do you remember 2009/2010 when were actually going shit?

Short memories.

It gets a bit tiresome constantly criticising others clubs for their cap management.

Nothing to do with cap management. Everything to do with having the ability to arrange a/ 3rd party deals above the table and b/ 3rd party deals under the table. Looking after family members with jobs, houses or holidays.

That's where we can't match these clubs.

Short memories.

A Datsun will get a team with practically half of it internationals or state players to the semis - but won't get it much further.

we got to the 2nd week on the back of a 7 tackle try and a Morris miracle in the 90th minute against a team which scrapped into the 8

We are fodder for the big teams when the heats on.

All I read is what a great team we have on 80 gsm.

I read it this morning in the Herald. Best pack in the comp practically.

How come we don't win anything.

Don't play to potential.

Simple.

The guys I mentioned. They are porsches. Playing like datsuns.

Simple.

You like datsuns?

Great.

I don't.

You are one damned miserable cynic.

FIFITA: gun. Best prop in the game.
Carney: gun. Was in the Dally M reckoning all year. Shoulda played origin. Is a step above 90% of all NRL players and is consistently our best.
Gallen: gun. Machine. Don't let familiarity breed contempt. He's first picked in rep sides for a reason.
Gordon: Gun. Just because he doesn't score a try every time he touches the ball doesn't mean he is disappointing.
Lewis: GUN. He is superb in every aspect of the game. His competitive nature lifts the intensity of our team and makes us very, very hard to beat.
W Graham: Gun. Skilled, competitive, quick, hard.

Hard to disagree with that.

Anyway, just pay Fifita what he wants. Players like him don't come along every day and the other clubs know it.

Newman, I think you have just highlighted exactly what S73 is pointing out. We are a far better football team than the results show.

Should be a Top 4 team challenging for the Premiership.

I don't think his issues are with the squad - I think his issues are the results with the quality at our disposal.

Newman has summed it up pretty well. We have a pretty f**king strong side, the best pack in the comp, a top line halfback and fullback. With the salary cap you cannot have stars 1-17 and last yr we got done in a semi final by one try without our star playmaker.

We showed we can beat anyone on our day, remember the night at shark park we absolutely dominated the roosters for the first half. I don't think I saw anyone do that to the rooters all yr.

If everything was even id be asking the same thing. But it's not. Last year we were under a relentless and heavy attack by the governing body and the media. I know it's easy to say "just win" but it's a mitigating circumstance that is completely acceptable. Being pissed we didn't win the comp last year is just a joke.

Agree again with newms posts but Since also has good claims.

I watched a Fox Sports special on 2004 - that was a Dogs team under pressure and scrutiny. They really galvanized and brought it home.

Can bad luck/coaching/management/focus/(insert here) be the main reason why we have no premiership?

The pressure or history must weigh heavier on this club than it really should.

You're inference is that these guys have all the potential in the world, but are shithouse. I disagree. Intently.

I'll way in here on this one. The Dogs team was the remnants of the team that rorted the cap. Not a little, but by 30%. They were disqualified, lost 2 unremarkable players & came back the the next year & won it because the players took a pay cut to stay together & remain under the cap.
How the phaarkk is that even close to fair? Its not.
Newman is bang on correct about the quality of the squad. S73 is bang on incorrect about how the players are playing.
The difference between our club & others is the level of our depth or lack of.
the difference between 1-8th is minuscule. 1 injury. 1 bad referee decision. The difference between us & the Roosters last year? We were better. We had their measure. We didnt have Manlys measure. S73's blind hatred of Flanagan doesnt make sense because the arguments dont stack up against the results. Wayne Bennet won 4 premierships at the Broncos in 20 years. Despite having Salary cap work arounds. Despite having the best squad of every club. Despite having the Australian team Spine & captains. Thats right. With all of thsoe resources he didnt win 16 out of 20. Thats how hard it is.
We got 4th last year. To say Flanagan cant coach. To say we are a strike player short. To say our recruitment is poor. Are all just dumber than dumb statements.

I've no idea why you're making shit up...but to draw the picture....

We all agree these guys are some of the very best in the game.

Individually.

And at previous clubs.

So when they come together as a collective force, we all expect.....

Well, we aren't getting what we expect.

Are we.

Is that their fault?

I don't believe so. I actually said who I believe is falling short.

They're shithouse?......I'm farked where you got that idea from. I don't agree with you.

I'm not going to prove you wrong yet again.

That's why they make highlights reels - so one can go back and see Todd in action for the Rorts, etc......and one doesn't have to rely on a poor memory or their biased viewpoint.

But you are wrong on that point to. Clubs with squads & coaches & rorting trechniques much better than ours with coaches way more lauded than ours, come 4th too.
Bellamy has won 1 premiership & you could argue that the practice that core group had playing together & in disqualified grand finals made it easier for that group to win it again.
Bet bellamy, 1 title in 12 years. News ltd resoures absolutley unlimited at his disposal. Not a brilliant result really.
