    Team List rd 3

I'm not so concerned about the team picked as I am of the defensive structure. Hornby shifted to the right of defence is a disaster. I hope to see the change here.

    Cuthbo to newy

And I'll also state it again, Bennett's skill set, reputation and respect allows him to get the best out of players hence getting more out of an ordinary recruitment drive. Bellamy is another who can do this. Not many can though so Pricey has some work to do. I do acknowledge that it would be...

    Cuthbo to newy

Well which one is it? Anyway, I can see the point you're trying to make in regards to recruitment but you must acknowledge the coach is a big piece in the puzzle of converting average to good. Anyway onto the contract size, no one here is arguing that Cuthbertson is worth 250K for 3 seasons. I...

    Cuthbo to newy

This is multi-dimensional, you must also consider the head coach and the back room staff in all of this. Bennett and his staff have a knack of getting the best out of average players. Price is an unknown, but seeing how many coaches can actually do this, I would say chances aren't great. By...

    Cuthbo to newy

If you actually read what I wrote you would have noticed that I said keeping him meant paying overs. I do note that 250k for 3 years is a gamble I personally wouldn't take without Bennett at the helm. I do believe that Cuthbo embraced Bennett more than the club and I may be speculating here...

    Cuthbo to newy

Cuthbo showed against the Broncos that he can rise to the big occasion. He also is one of the best offloaders in the game. I think if he stayed he would have played a much bigger role with the club next season. I’m sure that none of the players we’ve signed has his skill set. Not happy he...

    Time for a new jersey?

Who said the St George side of the venture wouldn't survive on its own? Have a look at the following link: http://www.steelers.com.au/PDF/Annual-Financial-Report.pdf Doesn't look like much of a dependence there. Juniors, doesn't guarantee success. The salary cap sees to that. Manly won with 2...

A Contract is a Contract, is a Contract....or is it?

Stanley is a "around the legs" tackler. Go watch the R15 v the Broncos. He made 26 tackles and I would say at least 23-24 of them were around the legs. Watch him in the 2nd half when the Broncos really upped the pressure down his side, he made some glaring misses one-on-one. As an aside, in...

Tim Moltzen ... (war is over)

This is beyond Moltzen and his desire. Letting Moltzen go to them "because he has no desire to play in the Red V" will justify their actions and result in us punishing ourselves. Does that make any sense? This is about us acting like a big club. Why should a rival club be able to make a...

A Contract is a Contract, is a Contract....or is it?

Stanley is no fullback. He isn't quick enough, is suspect under the high ball and one-on-one defence isn't good enough. He is a half. Nightingale has no vision and poor passing. Everytime he plays fullback his contribution is never what it usually is and our attack never gets out of 2nd gear...

    Blacklock/Ainscough or Nighty/Moz

All of them are class but Blacklock had the one ability that makes him special and that was that he would/could take it upon himself to win the game and did it many times. Playing like a 2nd fullback roving around playing off the shoulder of playmakers. He would read the situation and find the...

City v Country (kind of spoiler alert)

I may be wrong here but I think he was carrying that groin injury for a few minutes in that game and that little reverse kick under the posts finished him off. No Boyd, no Soward. It will be interesting to see how the team adapts.

    Fullback for next year

What's wrong with Green? His has been real impressive this year as a hard working front rower. He takes the ball up twice in sets. Gets stuck in defence. Very rarely makes errors in defence. Hardly drops the ball and is always alive hence why is has regathered so may loose balls on the ground...

    Fullback for next year

Cooper's defence has saved countless tries. Our game is built on defence and I think Tagive may not have the required defence. I'm not sure what his technique is like. It may be good but centre is a tricky defensive position and it requires good decision making which comes from experience. With...

    Fullback for next year

Not necessarily. You can back load the contract and this would work as we would have a number of players retiring like Fien (end of 2012) / Hornby (end of 2013). Positions Stanley and King would fill. I think there is room to move.
