Fullback for next year

Not so sure Goodwin has the passing ability of Boyd. Without this ability at fullback, our most potent attack that has been honed over the past 2 years is gone.

Boyd is Bennett taught. Not so sure Price can work the same magic with Goodwin.

Dugan is out of our price range. In the market place he would go for stupid money. If we had Bennett we may have had some chance without offering top price but with Price that wont be the case.

I doubt Boyd's current contract would be anywhere near Dugan's price range without significantly cutting into the Cooper cash.

Who is the front rower everyone wants??
Don't know if many good props are on the market??

James Graham is looking for an NRL start.

Any thoughts?

You can never have enough quality props but we have Weyman, Hunt & Merrin among others.

Weyman is proven. Merrin & Hunt's progress has been excellent. They are real quality. Green too this season has been excellent. He provides real value of the bench. He isn't really an impact prop but rather a workhorse. He has run some impressive numbers and looks for work.

I think we are healthy here. Age isn't a factor either.

Fullback is a real issue. Without Boyd's incredible season last year, we wouldn't have won the premiership. Simple as that.

Fullback and left centre is what we need to address.

I hear Ryan Tandy is on the market. He has a bit of experience and could offer some useful tips.

Why do people assume we'll be in the market for a marquee player when Boyd leaves?

I think you'll find that any $$$ that becomes available from Boyd's departure will be used to shore up our current roster. I think you'll find that Stanley's new contract would have taken a decent slice of that money, whilst players such as Beau Scott would have clauses that triggered upgraded contracts once they made Rep teams.

I reckon we will promote from within, no marquee player signings for us.

My money is on cooper extending his contract. Bennett mentioned in an interview that the senior playing group of Hornby, Young and Cooper will be a great help to Steve Price next year. I realise I might be reading into that too much but I just get the feeling that he will go around for one more year.

Not necessarily. You can back load the contract and this would work as we would have a number of players retiring like Fien (end of 2012) / Hornby (end of 2013). Positions Stanley and King would fill.

I think there is room to move.

Not 100% but I'm pretty sure Hornby is off contract/retiring at the end of 2012.

I agree we need a prop, but he only needs to be a good, honest worker. Not a star. That or a 20's player.

Who would you all go for? McKinnon looks alright.

I agree that they don't have to be a star. The one thing that Bennett has really opened the leagues eye to, is that you can manufacture a star player instead of just buying one. You do have to be a great mentor though. You look at teams like Souths and the Bulldogs and every year they are active in the player market spending big dollars on anyone they can get their hands on. It proved fruitless for those clubs didn't it!

If Boyd leaves Stanley would be my first choice fullback. If Cooper retired I would throw Tagive into his centre spot. Goodwin would remain my reserve fullback.

Re prop, hopefully Cuthbertson will be given some time in first grade this year.

Cooper's defence has saved countless tries. Our game is built on defence and I think Tagive may not have the required defence. I'm not sure what his technique is like. It may be good but centre is a tricky defensive position and it requires good decision making which comes from experience.

With so many second man plays, the centre and back rower have little margin for error.

What's wrong with Green? His has been real impressive this year as a hard working front rower. He takes the ball up twice in sets. Gets stuck in defence. Very rarely makes errors in defence. Hardly drops the ball and is always alive hence why is has regathered so may loose balls on the ground.

Go have a look at his stats on nrlstats.com for this season. Bennett has given him Saffy's spot. That I have no doubt.
