Or we just play Merrin in his best position and where the alternatives are largely a bunch of plodders.

Matagi
Latu
RCG
McKendry
Latimore

That's alot better than we had in 2015. With guys from our Under 20s really impressing and also signing Kikau. I don't think we need Merrin in the front row now. When we signed him we did. But our front row is looking better now.

If we are lucky more than one of them might play at a first grade level. Merrin doesn't play wide, he will be prop or lock and play no different either way. The only question will be is if we will line Taylor up out wide, and we shouldn't at all because he's useless out there.

Gus insinuated that there will be some exciting news next week on twitter.

Said "Closer to home" so not Grevsmuhl.

So hopefully a re-signing of the Jennings boys or DWZ.

He also said he had re-signed Cleary Jr for the next 3 years, no get out clauses.

Taylor used to be a wide running back rower but was moved infield to fill our defensive gaps. He hinted at his intention to be more of a ballplaying backrower after the dragons game. He will be back there next year with merrin to play up the middle.

Peach off the bench and we will be hard to stop.

Matagi looked good for Roosters last year.
Latu and RCG were great for us last year. Latu only had a few games but was still impressive

Just leaves Latimore and Mckendry to round out the pack or lose their spot to someone like Kikau if he demands selection.

If lats is our worst front rower we are in a good position as he is a solid and consistent first grader. When he's our best that's when you worry.

He is useless with the ball wide. He was useless wide when Docker was plodding around in the middle and he was still useless this season when we used him to try and plug the gaps around our halves.

Taylor is an easily defined specialist, he's an old style lock, he can make 50 tackles in the middle and take a mid count hit up after the defensive line has been softened up a bit where his mobility and ball skills can be used.

Unfortunately, we've had a shit front row ages now that doesn't dent the line and like our halves is almost always facing a set defensive line with no momentum.

I've heard from a very good source we could potentially get Grevsmuhl for 2016 onwards, however he hasn't 100% signed anything at this point with Parra and Titans in for him too (although we're leading the charge).

TBH with Kikau and Latu, Albert, Leota etc. coming through this year and next, I wouldn't be trading our front row rotation for anyone over the next few years.

Thats weird. I saw gould confirm a while ago that he did have a get out clause to go to his dad's next club.
Wouldn't be surprised if he has said both though....

When you consider that the Panthers allowed Nathan to play for the Australian Kangaroos, and that Penrith's future is very bright,it was a no-brainer that Cleary stayed.

He has formed solid mateships within this club and he obviously realises that Penrith will be a powerhouse for years to come.

It's very impressive that we can sack the kids father and still convince him to sign a 3 year extension. I was also surprised when we forced Michael Jennings out of the club and his brothers decided to stay.

Gus really must be an impressive talker/negotiator to be able to sign players after having pushed their family members out of the club. I was reading an article on Te Maire Martin where he said he was almost on his way to the Cowboys and had offers from several other clubs, but it was talking to Gus that got him to commit to this club over the others.

Gus has a lot of detractors both within the Panther fans and outside. But when you look at what he has achieved over the past few years and the signings he has pulled off, I think it speaks volumes for the person that he is.
Penrith would be in a far, far worse situation if Gus did not come here and we do owe him a debt of gratitude for what he has done.
And, NO, I am not his love child
