The team has been announced for this game. All the big guns have been named. See how we will go.

By the way the club is not streaming the game or FOXTEL is not televising it, I phoned and they told me this.

Is anyone local, willing to twitter or post scores and commentary on the day????

I have a feeling that Duges and Frizzell will not be ready for round 1.

Squad will be in NZ bonding for the week.

Expect from round 1 4-5 players will head back to the Cutters with the remainder to rotate.

I'm pretty sure Sky will broadcast it here in NZ. They usually broadcast all Warriors trials.

Dragons Name Squad For Nelson Trial

Mon 15th February, 07:00AM A A

The St George Illawarra Dragons have named their travelling squad for the pre-season trial fixture against the New Zealand Warriors at Trafalgar Park, Nelson on Saturday.
Dragons Head Coach Paul McGregor has named a 26-man team for their third match of the pre-season which sees fullback Josh Dugan named in the squad after being rested in the Charity Shield fixture at ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park on Saturday.
Furthermore, co-captain Gareth Widdop (NRL World All-Stars) and Joel Thompson (NRL Indigenous All-Stars) have also both been named following their respective team commitments during the NRL All-Stars fixture at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane on Saturday.
The Dragons will hold a five-day team camp leading into the fixture in and around the South Island city.
“Pre-season has been a long and tough one going on fourteen weeks and the guys have really prepared well,” said McGregor.
“This will be a our last week away for the players to really enjoy each other’s company and bond together before we go into Round 1.
“A week is a long time away from your family so this will provide that opportunity for the players to become closer and start to learn about each other’s habits that little bit more.
“I believe the players will come away from this with a very tight-knit bond.
“The Warriors have bought well and certainly have strike across the park while also being big and mobile.
“This game will represent a very good hit-out for us and provide a good gage at where we are before we close-off and start the season.”
Nelson Trial v New Zealand Warriors:
Leeson Ah Mau, Euan Aitken, Mike Cooper, Ben Creagh, Jack de Belin, Josh Dugan, Tyson Frizell, Siliva Havili, Drew Hutchison, Sebastine Ikahihifo, Tim Lafai, Dunamis Lui, Kurt Mann, Jake Marketo, Benji Marshall, Peter Mata’utia, Will Matthews, Tyrone McCarthy, Josh McCrone, Taane Milne, Jason Nightingale, Russell Packer, Adam Quinlan, Mitch Rein, Joel Thompson, Gareth Widdop.

Virtually full strength

Mary will fire up the boys for this one

Expect the weather to be colder and more suitable for league

We will see who amongst the hopefuls really wants a first grade jumper

You'll like Nelson mate it's a beautiful area. If you get a chance check out Golden Bay. Awesome beach.
Thanks for the tip d-psa. I'll visit a few places if I can find a rental car. Nelson seems to be booked out. Might end up with a pushbike.

Are there a group/pack of Willows heading over?
How long you there for?
Any club functions?

Please persist in asking for the game to be televised or you'll need to organise Skype for us all.

One thing I would like to see in the trial at some stage is

Dugan FB
Lafai & Nightingale Wing
Aitken & Milne Centres
Mann & Widdop Halves

If Glymin was fit Lafai wouldn't get a run.

Mann has good footwork and speed and is supposedly a 1, 6 or 7.

We keep talking about who is the next after / instead of Benji maybe it is Mann.

I think it would be sensible to give Mann a go at 6 or 7 as you never know he may
be just what we need.

I think Mann played in the halves quite a bit when younger didn't he...great to see another on here suggesting they would like Milne to play in the centres...as I said before Ive only seen him for a short time in a trial but I was very impressed with what I did see...seems to have great positional awareness and good hands...lets just wait and see

Mate, you were on the Charity Shield thread cracking on about how our structures hadn't changed and our attack looked poor and you have pretty much selected a very similar spine to last year without highest try assister from last year. How is that changing our attacking structures and going to help us score points?

The simple fact is, Dugan won't be fullback. Mann will be fullback this season and Dugan will move to the centres where IMO he is more lethal and it is truly the position that suits him best. You may be right with Mann potentially moving to the halves but if that occurs it will be for next year and Dugan will still not be fullback, Dufty will. Benji will be in our halves no matter what. Despite peoples opinions Hutchison, McCrone and potentially Nona will be the back ups. Why trial a player in the halves for next year this preseason if they will not be playing there at all this season?

I'd love to see Milne in the team but I don't think it will be at centre at the expense of Benji, Aitken or Lafai for round 1. Hopefully a wing spot with a chance to move one in when injuries inevitably strike or rep duties.

Mate I hope Lafai does fill the centre spot (despite some early criticism on here) and I have always rated young Aitken he really impressed me particularly in the latter part of last season..... and your probably right Milne will miss out early on, but Im really hoping he gets a go sooner rather than later....anyhow im not complaining how long as it been since we were in this position with players...bring it on

Yeah, Aitken and Lafai are a real toss up for me. Aitken has shown excellent form and is looking good. Lafai can be absolutely destructive and is left side specialist. I have Aitken ahead by a nose due to his form.

Milne, I really hope to see him step up in Nelson and take the open wing spot. He looks big quick and could be an absolute animal on the wing and could still move in when on the attack.
