Fantastic performance from him, and, if I'm being honest, it's more valuable than what he can provide at centre. I actually thought he'd be wasted on the wing but he's not at all - quite the opposite. He had a huge impact on the game

Great quote from Flanno in the post match presser too: "Unhappy players don't play like that"

Is it possible that the Dragons might finally have a coach that actually knows what he is doing?
This is what we have been trying to illustrate over previous weeks.. Shane might actually have more of an idea than us blokes in our loungerooms! Even if it takes a few weeks to fine-tune some of the positions/players.

I think the previous 3 coaches and their cluelessness is what has us dragons fans thinking otherwise.. they broke us.

We certainly have one now OED. SFlanno has had a good pre-season sizing up all of our nearly full roster. He is the type of coach that puts a lot into analysing the pros and cons of each of his players and by doing this he can then determine where best each player will be better placed on the field. He has a good knack for this and will stick by his decisions.

It goes to show that you can miss out on signing marquees but there is no need to worry when you can create your own which is what SFlanno can do. He knew that he could get better things out of the then grumpy Ben Hunt and refused to let him go as he could see that if he could get him to accept his position in the team and become happier, then the team overall will excel. Hunt being our only marquee will set the standards for others.

No one else would pay him $800,000 a year IMO.

St George Illawarra coach Shane Flanagan says the Dragons will not release Zac Lomax before the end of the season as the club considers a shock move for Wallabies star Jordan Petaia for 2025 and beyond.
The Herald can reveal the Dragons have opened discussions with Petaia’s management company, who also look after Sydney Roosters-bound Mark Nawaqanitawase, about linking with the Dragons once his Rugby Australia deal expires at the end of this year.

It comes as the Dragons and Lomax’s management have agreed to put conversations about Lomax’s future on ice until after round four to give St George Illawarra the best opportunity to start the year strongly under their new coach.
Petaia, who currently plays Super Rugby with the Queensland Reds, is also exploring rugby union options in France and Japan but has caught the eye of Flanagan.

The 24-year-old has represented the Wallabies on 27 occasions, including in the last two World Cups, and is seen as a potential fullback or centre in rugby league.
The Dragons could have an opening in the back line with the future of Lomax somewhat up in the air.

Lomax, who had one of his best games in a Dragons jersey in the club’s first-up win over the Titans on Saturday night, has been the topic of great conjecture recently as rival clubs circle the unsettled outside back.
Parramatta are one of the clubs who have expressed interest, but the Dragons insist Lomax doesn’t have permission to formally open negotiations with rival clubs.

Flanagan has told this masthead he is open to a conversation around Lomax’s future if he is unhappy at the club but was adamant that he would not contemplate a release before this season ended.
“He’s going nowhere,” Flanagan said. “We’ve told his management that we won’t be letting him go this year. If there’s a conversation to be had, we will have that in the future and it will be about next year.”
Lomax still has two more years to run on his $800,000-a-season deal after this season. The Dragons believe he is their best wing option at this point despite Lomax’s preference to play in the centres or at fullback.

I wonder whether Zac objects to playing wing after what was probably his best performance ever in the red V.

I cannot see any team playing him at fullback, nor can I see any team paying him more money than we do, unless of course Uncle Nick has tapped him on the shoulder.
The roosters will not want him, complete bullshit from the media having a guess at somewhere that could afford him. They have huge wraps on Robert Toia, and have just re-signed Billy Smith for 3 years. He will not play fullback there with Tedesco.. nor will they pack him 700-800k. The Eels is probably the only realistic one. IF Zac were to go there, Flano won't lose out in the deal. He will get something back.

To me it appears like something has been/is brewing. The situation has not been clearly nipped in the bud by the club nor has Lomax come out and said that he intends to fulfil his contractual obligations. We know that Lomax isn't happy on the wing even though he has been putting in heaps.

I noticed last night when the Fox camera was in the Dragons change room that when Flanno shook Lomax's hand, Lomax didn't appear overjoyed and did not really smile. It was a quick hand shake without any pats on the shoulder by either Lomax or Flanno - just some acknowledgement.

If Flanno gives in to Lomax and puts him back in the centres it would possibly throw out whatever plans Flanno wants to achieve for the team and also any back flip would make Flanno an easy "target" for someone else to moan and try and get his way.

I suppose that if Lomax isn't happy and has signalled that he wants out "unofficially", then the club has to look at other options and alternatives and maybe this Jordan Pataia is the man that could be in the running to replace Lomax. I know from the reports that Flanno has said that Lomax is going nowhere this year but 2025 is a different story.

Time will tell.
