    PNG's back.

Actually the players stayed in Melbourne and flew into Sydney for games in 1982. So his is kind of right.

    PNG's back.

Kinda sorta. It is not easy to move a whole club over one summer. They started the 1982 season as South, changed to Swans in June, then added Sydney after the season. Players had jobs and family, so could not move straight away, and asked for 12 months to make arrangements. It was never a...

    Peter V'landys - New NRL/ARLC Chairman

Warburton has resigned from Seven, but would be a great addition and help the NRL understand what they need to do to get a better broadcast deal next time.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

MCG was two stands done separately, with independent roof structures (rebuilt as one) When they rebuilt the Southern Stand in 1991 they relocated the AFL GF.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

The aim of the review is to reduce spending for the Olympics, so not sure a half billion upgrade to Suncorp is going to be announced. Most likely a small expansion of capacity under the existing roofline and improvements to amenities. Reckon a new 50k stadium at Victoria Park is likely as it...

Yeah - how dare someone have a contrary opinion on an internet forum!

    PNG's back.

Not sure that what happened 40+ years ago in the VFL is relevant but South Melbourne did not have a partial move to Sydney before they decided to relocate. The VFL played half a dozen games @ SCG involving various teams (like the NRL has done in Perth), then decided that a Sydney team was a good...

    PNG's back.

Their ‘non - negotiables‘ seem quite negotiable. Their CEO said the following in the same interview on SEN a few weeks back: ‘Two to four games @ NSO’ ‘Two games @ NSO’ ‘I think our fans would be happy with one. Bears v Manly would be fantastic‘

    The Las Vegas Thread

PVL is a do-er, not a thinker. He just gets things done. He doesn‘t care what comes out of his mouth. He is happy to speak without being properly prepared - like a certain fromer US President. He just says what he thinks his people want to hear and what will get media attention. The Sydney media...

    The Las Vegas Thread

To stop them taking bets, the NRL would have to take/threaten legal action to stop agencies using their intellectual property. So, at this stage, they don‘t have to pay the NRL anything. Not all agencies even pay US sports for taking bets.

    PNG's back.

Good interview. PVL made clear that the $60m is not going to the NRL team, it will be going to schools and pathways.

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Saturday is sold out and only single seats available for Friday and Sunday. Maybe 100 tickets in total.

    18th club, whose next?

Actually the IOC suggested Carrara. You can’t have athletics at the Gabba without significant restructuring of the stadium. It is way too short, does not have sufficient media facilities nor secure access like any modern stadium. All Melbourne stadiums have large undeground car parks and secure...

    18th club, whose next?

Maybe in summer The only thing Sydney has over Melbourne for things to do is surf beaches. No doubt frequented by many potential RL fans over winter instead of going to the footy.

    18th club, whose next?

Don’t disagree with you about Storm, but even though they might never be as big as the smallest AFL team, does not mean that they are not worthwhile in the NRL. Perth is just under half the size of Melbourne but it will gain more traction there as there is less competition. And the Grand Prix...

    18th club, whose next?

I agree with you - AFL is Brisbane is much, much bigger than NRL in Melbourne. Still, I am not sure that Melbourne’s lack of interest in RL is indicative of anything other than a lack of interest in RL. In regards to your other points: - swimming is not really a thing here compared to...

    18th club, whose next?

Please explain how the Lions getting big crowds 20 years ago proves that Melbourne is not a sports mad city?

So, you are comparing cities of 2.5m - 5m to a country of 330m? Sounds fair. Anyway, those ratings, like Storm, are horrible. Not sure that should be used as a baseline.

    2024 Crowd Watch

Suns 22k GWS 21k Storm 20k Good crowds for expansion markets.

Nah. You’re making that up. Which AFL clubs pull less than 61k? Don’t think any AFL or NRL game has ever rated that low. The Giants are the lowest rating AFL team at an average of 250k.
