Oh well this is flattering lol

Western Melbourne - NRL Expansion (2nd Victorian Team)

On time for later this year, as stated. The 5,000-capacity field opening later this year potentially opens up Storm trial games to be played there in the near future and perhaps get a gauge on what interest could like for a future NRL team. Being out west and staying in touch with the grassroots...

Western Melbourne - NRL Expansion (2nd Victorian Team)

A positive about this article (being written in 2020) is 'Field 2' being constructed on-time, according to the report: Western United are set to host fixtures there later this year. Good signs in terms of development.

Western Melbourne - NRL Expansion (2nd Victorian Team)

Melbourne's northern suburbs is home to a million people, with growth projected to reach 1.5 million by 2036. They also have the least amount of junior clubs. This is where the western market has the advantange in both population, projected growth and junior numbers. It also just makes the most...

Western Melbourne - NRL Expansion (2nd Victorian Team)

Analytically and logistically speaking it's a lot more feasable to base it in the suburbs while potentially taking regional games to Geelong and Ballarat. Personally I'd like to see a hypothetical 2nd VIC team adopt a name such like the 'Western Victorians' to help encapsulate the entire...

Western Melbourne - NRL Expansion (2nd Victorian Team)

Yeah nah that's a hard pass for me lol North Sydney can have their Bears.

Western Melbourne - NRL Expansion (2nd Victorian Team)

I agree with Perth being a frontrunner however I'm conflicted about an NZ2 team. The Storm are in a much bigger market, financially more stable and last season had the most members in the NRL. Junior numbers are at a record-high this season for Victorian rugby league. You also take into account...

    18th club, whose next?

Well it'd depend on how much the NRL would be willing to work with Wyndham City Council & Western Melbourne Group to secure the venue. Not saying they would but hypothetically, they may be willing to at least talk with said groups about the progress of the stadium and look into it. There are...

Western Melbourne - NRL Expansion (2nd Victorian Team)

If a potential Western Melbourne team can find a way to tap into its strong Pasifika market, it could open up a whole fanbase. Using the Samoan parades for the RLWC last year as an example, there were thousands of Samoan & Pasifika fans rallying every weekend in Melbourne - particularly out...

Western Melbourne - NRL Expansion (2nd Victorian Team)

Being a rugby league diehard (Storm) from Melbourne's west, I personally believe people haven't looked into us enough. Population wise, Melbourne's west is growing rapidly and the stadium to be built would be upside looking at it from the NRL's perspective. If you know the demographic of our...

    18th club, whose next?

Perth definitely deserves a team. But we're looking at the broader expansion picture of 20 teams by 2032 and giving reasons why people should look into a 2nd Victorian team more closely.

    18th club, whose next?

A good sign is the regional field is nearing its completion. I reckon it'd be in the best interests of both Western Melbourne Group and Wyndham City Council to at least consider the prospect of working together with the NRL to open up revenue and financial growth of the main stadium.

We're just happy to be thought about lol we'll happily take a 19th or 20th license :)

    18th club, whose next?

Considering the likes of Rob Leota and Jordan Uelese - Wallabies rep players from Victoria - as well as other Vic rugby players, it's definitely something to think about!

    18th club, whose next?

Its scheduled for completion in 2026. The 5,000-capacity regional training field is going to be opened later this year with Western United hosting fixtures there, while the main stadium and the "world class sport, entertainment, business and residential precinct" is built with the new train...

    18th club, whose next?

With the NRL looking to expand to 20 teams by 2032, a 2nd Victorian team ticks a lot of boxes compared to other major cities i.e. travel costs, distance, logistics etc. What the AFL has done right when it comes interstate teams is build cross-city derbies with 2 teams in every state. West Coast...
