    Coaching preference for 2024

The board has their recurring meeting every second Tuesday. Ryan Webb said 2 weeks ago that the club will reach a decision within the fortnight. So you would assume a decision would be made today. Whether that results in an official announcement from the club or just “confirmation” by media is...

St George Bank pull sponsorship after 40 years

To be the devil’s advocate, Westpac (the parent company) has been scaling back the St George Bank brand for a while now. With this context, it does clarify the decision a bit more. Regardless, the board and management should all go sack themselves for letting the club fall from grace this far.

    Coaching preference for 2024

It’s common knowledge that player/coach managers leak stuff to the media to get the upper hand in negotiations. Don’t be surprised if we get a lot more hoo-hah in the media before any deal gets over the line.

    Coaching preference for 2024

I use to be a big supporter of Flanno based on his experience of bringing the Sharks back from the brink. But something that has changed my mind recently is it hasn’t been only our board who has passed him up. The Tigers and Warriors had every chance to make him their HC but did not. That’s 3...

    Round 12 vs Roosters

If he goes well it could turn out like Fitzy and Josh Hannay. The new coach doesn’t have to start from completely ground up if he has the interim become his assistant. You would think that would speed up the whole onboarding part of the job and give the new coach some insight into the playing group.

To be fair it would be pretty awkward for him to confirm those rumours with Ben Haran sitting up there next to him. If Shane Richardson did come to the club wouldn’t that mean Haran loses his GM job?

Not too mention the fact that the new coach will have so much salary cap space to play around with. I believe there is only a handful of players signed beyond 2025 so whoever the new coach is they can build the roster they want without too many long-term contracts to juggle.

Flanagan narrowly edges out Hasler for me. I recall a lot of the younger boys got along really well with him during his time as AC to Mary. I reckon he’d put his heart and soul into the job if he got the nod to make sure his legacy isn’t remembered by how his time at the Sharks ended.

I reckon whether Hunt decides to stay or go when Hook is gone, the ball will be in the club’s court. If he stays, fantastic. We’ve got an organising half for the next 3 years and a mentor for Bud to learn off. If he decides to ask for a release, he will be a very valuable bargaining chip...

    The Rumours Thread

Take it with a grain of salt but Hoops on NRL360 said the Storm have earmarked Ryles to succeed Bellamy regardless if he retires at the end of this year or goes around again. I imagine that’d be pretty hard for Ryles to knock back and basically locks him up for the Storm.

    The Rumours Thread

A question for those who follow the lower grades, who do we have coming through in the halves? With Amone’s future uncertain and chat about Bud getting injured again at training, I am curious who would be next in line if those two are unavailable. We saw glimpses of Zach Herring during the...

    Coaching preference for 2024

I definitely agree this would be the ideal coaching arrangement for the club but I don’t think an assistant role with a succession plan is alluring enough to snag the likes of Ryles especially with the Melbourne job potentially in the mix. I reckon the only chance we can get Ryles is if we go at...

    Coaching preference for 2024

In order of preference: 1. Ryles - Long apprenticeship at Storm/Roosters, fresh perspective on the club, highly touted by the Storm to succeed Bellamy so that’s gotta count for something. 2. Young - Good reviews whilst working under Payton at the Cows, would understand the club in its current...

    Sack Griffin

It’ll be interesting to see what happens if we do pursue him. Andrew Webster mentioned on SEN yesterday that talk of the Roosters not wanting to let him go before his contract expired wasn’t entirely accurate. It was more they don’t want a repeat of the AOB situation where he broke his contract...

Agreed OT. Michelle Bishop was on SEN earlier today and she recalled an encounter with a senior club official during that period we were shopping for a new coach post-Mary. That official told her that the club was looking for a plug in plug out coach, someone that could be pulled out easily if...

    Dragons v Titans Round 2, 2023

After all the pain and suffering we’ve had to endure this off-season, I hope we will be given a mercy with a win tonight. For all our sakes.

To be fair to Webb, he has made some solid progress on the business side of the club such as the CoE, KFC sponsorship, getting the club turning a profit for two years straight through COVID. That's his background and where his strengths lie. No doubt he is responsible for football matters like...

    Blake Lawie

He did definitely lift when he captained in the St Helens match. I reckon he is our best candidate to succeed Hunt. Just needs a little bit more consistency in his performances to step up but from all accounts from younger players he already looks to be a leader/captain in the making.
