Bloody hell.. just had flashbacks of Sonny Fai while watching those highlights. Dunno if the young fella is as good as Sonny was, but hope he goes well.

Shit that puts it into perspective. And its literally 14 mins work on his 800k contract. Really hard to understand this one. The parents of the little girl who was injured must be filthy.

That’s unfair. George’s public musings are clearly self-serving, and most Warriors I know are smart enough to see that. Instead they see the almost immediate success of the Auckland FC v Phoenix derbies, and are excited to one day (hopefully) experience the same.

Oh yea I’d be surprised if many families made the move. I think the question is more how many players would be willing to leave families behind for the extra money. Ardie did that for his recent Japanese gig and while that was only one season, there’s ways to ease the burden for NRL players...

The tax breaks could be a big attraction for many players though. For someone on say, 800k AUD pa, that's about 340k AUD in local tax they skip, plus up to 40k AUD in resident tax (after offsets) as well. I'm sure they all have creative accountants that minimise their tax commitments anyway...

Roosters are gonna look pretty silly if they struggle upfront and he lights up...

Yea man Liam looks like he could still play 80 at a high level and quite comfortably. Dude is in great nick. Be a tough fight though, Scott has good hands.

Reckon Roosters will finish that high? I'm picking them to struggle given who they’ve lost and Walker being out for a while. Plus Smith could yet be gone too. Unless of course Uncle Nick pulls off a big signing. Hunt would certainly help.

Why is there little interest in the Kiwis in this forum?

Yep fair points. And FWIW, I'm definitely not saying NRL is all that matters, not at all. I posted earlier I've always followed the boys religiously, despite them resembling my golf game far more than I'd like i.e. massively disappointing most times but capable of the odd surprise that keeps me...

Why is there little interest in the Kiwis in this forum?

I can understand a sense of betrayal, yes. But – and I know this’ll be an unpopular view - I don’t necessarily agree that it is. I’m generalising here, there’s obviously edge cases that fall outside this thinking, but I don’t subscribe to the view that professional players have an obligation to...

Why is there little interest in the Kiwis in this forum?

You're right re: Samoan connection. I share the same the background as those boys - born here to immigrant parents, raised with lots of extended family and a very strong connection to the culture, but have a very very strong connection to NZ as well. Its actually something I feel very lucky to...

Why is there little interest in the Kiwis in this forum?

2017 was also SJ's 'youse got your wish' moment wasnt it? Looking back now, yea I think you're right. '17 feels like the tipping point. Tongan boys switching, the Kiwis bombing, Blair's DGAF attitude and SJ's clanger afterwards... all added up, it would've felt like players had stopped caring...

Hopefully I don’t regret this, but I’m assuming the q is genuine... Breakdowns have been more free-for-all in the past but what often happened was: defending teams would just throw a tangle of bodies at the breakdown to pin the ball and wait for a scrum to blow up; or attacking teams would do...

Why is there little interest in the Kiwis in this forum?

Bro I think 10/45 is embarrassing TBH. A 25% win record was probably acceptable in the 80s, but the fact we’re still winning at about that rate now, when so many of our players are considered amongst the best in the comp… is pretty shit. I know why I keep coming back for more, but I can also...

From what I remember, most kick off head knocks stem from the tackler being bumped offline by one of his own team mates.

Why is there little interest in the Kiwis in this forum?

I still follow the lads religiously but let’s face it, when the game is ruled by incompetent amateurs who keep finding new and creative ways to fk things up, and punctuated by - more often than not - poor performances on it, general apathy from casual fans is probably unsurprising. If we’re...

Yes, brave call by Schmidt to throw him straight in, wasnt expecting that at all. But it certainly paid off. Pleased for the young man too. I think Manu is lining up a crack for the 27 RWC. I don't think its a coincidence that of all the cashed up rugby clubs he could've signed with, he lands...

Yea and he's copping a bit of grief for it online too. It was a helluva kick, arguably the best 50/22 or 40/20 I've ever seen in either code. Especially as it was reactive, rather than set up through a possession set leading up to it. But playing up to the crowd when you're 10 down and still...

    Off Season 2024/25

Off topic, but not worth a thread on its own. But did anyone see James Lowe’s 50/22 kick in the Ireland v AB test? Nearly 60m banana kick from the sideline, just outside his own 22 to well inside the AB 22. Crazy. Nisbett and co barely acknowledged it but if that’d been in the NRL, the Fox...

Makes sense, just hope it happens sooner rather than later. At present they're hurting each other IMO, and CHCH more broadly is worse off for it.
