I agree. When the Broncos cannot come up with a plausible and thoroughly acceptable explanation, they will ignore these things and not respond to emails, letters etc. They decided that they wouldn't sack him ages before the NRL served the breach notice and then banned him for 9 weeks. The Broncos has the muscle to get their way if they want to keep a marquee player. Anyone else and maybe, goneski.

Hey David, I'm disappointed with a lot of the shenanigans that go on in modern day sport because often the players keep doing similar offences and fail in their role model duties.
If a player is released by a club, often that player gets picked up by another club.
What we don't want is our kids to hope that their player doesn't miss a game simply because they like or support him.
Instead, the governing authority needs to set an example by making consistent rulings where the punishment fits the crime.
Many years ago I was young and dumb and got caught for DUI. I felt upset at the time only because I got caught but what I should have been thinking was what if I killed someone, a boy perhaps.
I was in the Army at that time and the Military Police found out and reported me.
That resulted in me being charged and I lost 2 years superiority (I couldn't get a promotion) which cost me thousands of dollars.
After I eventually got my life back together I made absolutely sure that I'd never, ever do that crime again.
I was convicted and punished twice, once by the civil courts and once by the Army. I was in a position of trust and I was punished by a consistent authority. Standards and the safety of the public has to be maintained.

I still think it’s more a chain of events of poor decision making rather than any grand conspiracy.

It’s simply not worth anyones time or money to risk compromising themselves.

Abdo and co are on big money running the game, they aren’t going to chuck that all away for the Broncos or be beholden to anyone who could call them out.

It would be good to know the actual rationale for the 9 games, why such leniency?

Should we have a rule that if you earn over x amount and get suspended, half your salary during the suspension goes to charity or something?
Not to be rude, but I think you don't understand how these things work. If we ever meet in real life I will explain it to you.

I can see your point Nutz. Say for instance you weren't caught for DUI and like many other people who DUI and keep doing it because they don't get caught, you could have further down the track killed someone, anyone. Would you not then wished that you had been caught?

Mam ignored so much. Driving without a licence, driving under the influence (drugs and possibly booze), etc. just ignoring rules and responsibilities to himself and other people who could have ended up with severe suffering or death if this incident hopefully stops him from ignoring the rules.

I see that you did incur loss of promotion which cost you plenty due to a drop in seniority and because of the severity of the punishment by both the Army and Civil Courts and you wisely made sure that you didn't drive under the influence again. So has Mam been punished sufficiently to ensure a repeat will not happen or is it more a less a "slap on the hand" penalty because money wise it would not affect him and not being able to drive would not be a problem - he can catch Ubers, and not playing league gives him a better year because it will be shorter and he can train hard and be ready for the balance of the comp which will thrill Madge to pieces.

No, what you did after the costly penalties was the right thing Nutz. Mam will be caught again because he thinks that he can get away with it. He won't have the last laugh.

Channel 7 Brisbane just announced mam has agreed to the 9 week ban.
Broncos have slapped him with a 90 thousand fine and he has to undergo several courses..
Gee they really through the book at him didn't they.....
This is refreshing to hear. Of course there still an overpowering reek of a protected species syndrome, at least a hefty fine causes added pain.

I do wonder if the Broncos done so to somewhat appease the public flack from his lenient punishment. If so and despite detesting public bashings in some instances it’s a beautiful thing.

belta, Bronx probably done it to appease "league heirachy" and also their sponsors too. it was reported somewhere that mam may have been driving a sponsors car at time of accident .. if hes on 800k a year that equates to 15000 a week , he gets a 9 week ban by nrl but pays 90k fine to broncos which is 6 weeks pay.. a vey very minimal club penalty

A nine week ban. So what he did was as bad as two and a quarter nose-bitings. Or - guesstimatedly - just one tenth as bad as pretending to drink his own urine.

Cocaine is a Schedule 8 controlled substance, a drug of addiction. He should de-registered.

In January this year, rugby league player William Boland received a 32-MONTH BAN for his use of Ligandrol, a PED and Schedule 4 drug, i.e., a drug that can be obtained only via prescription (e.g. Xanax).

Mr Boland was not found to be under the influence of a narcotic nor did he cause a motor vehicle accident that caused physical injury to a child while driving unlicensed.

Yes he did qld redvee. Now name calling is almost as bad as what Mam was charged with but name calling only hurts the ego while what Mam got "punished" for was indeed more dangerous and he did cause physical injury and possibly some mental anguish, much worse than ego hurting. So was his suspension long enough under the circumstances and in comparison, I say a definite NO.

It's bullshit. Anything less than 12 month suspension is bullshit. At the end of the day, Broncs will ensure they (be seen) to do everything but (in reality) never jeopardise their chances in '25.
Whole thing stinks and absolutely fails the pub test. Protection for the wealthy clubs and the rest can suck shite.
Mam is a MULTIPLE repeat offender. Prison time is the correct answer.

Wow, doing a semi back flip. Just read that article 0.01 Grams in his system, after having some at a party the night before. (Hardly say a contributing factor) His prior suspensions are for minor traffic matters, considering only get 4 points on your P’s. The amount of cameras these days, ain’t been done myself but I could see how easy it would be be.
Shouldnt be driving, yep agree, shouldn’t be using the party drug ( let’s not kid ourselves how many footballers been posted using it, don’t use it but a lot obviously are - don’t know why, one thing its not performance enhancing

the fine he got was laughable but not the NRL or Broncos fault, just a weak and very inconsistent judicial system, perhaps starting with a poor investigation, leading to minimal charges and finished off with a fluffy sentence from a f
Airy fairy Magistrate.

jail time that’s even more laughable

$90 000 fine, 9 games suspension , call me a softie, not Scott free and he has tarnished his reputation and will be under the microscope,

not for one second condoning the actions but I’m not as disturbed by it as some

Compare it to NRL sentences for other non-"superstar" players. It's a Schedule 8 drug. It funds international organized crime. He could easily have killed two people. He has been previously suspended but flouts the authority of the courts and the right of other citizens to use the roads safely.

He is a public danger. Lock him up.

Unsure RFM and Tom Eisenhuth make the 17 man line up

I would rather play both Coachman’s and one of the junior bolters.

Until we see preseason games it’s hard to know. Eisenhuth was a workhorse last year and RFM fit and on his game is unstoppable. It’s going to be a real work in progress juggling players around.

Both one year older

Eisenhuth defended very well, but no go forward in attack

RFM prone to making mistakes that we can’t afford. On his day very good. Those days come along less frequently as Father Time takes its toll.
