    Gareth, I think the issue of diminishing respect for the referee can be partly put down to the practice of refs calling players by their first name and occasionally chatting informally to them at full time.     I understand that a "majority" verdict in criminal cases in NSW is where eleven out of twelve jurors must agree on a verdict. The judge (not the DPP) can ask the jury to attempt to come to a majority verdict if a unanimous verdict is not possible. Unless one or more of the jury members break...
