Lets go back to Eastern Suburbs

It's a little sanctimonious, and I also think a bit of a non sequitur... You're main argument seems to be claiming that "things are the way they are so don't expect change without a good cause", but seem to ignore the fact that 20 years ago they did just that. Now, clearly someone back then...

Lets go back to Eastern Suburbs

It's pretty obvious the name change was done because the club thought they'd be able to broaden our support. Otherwise why would you? So in that sense it was something of a marketing "experiment", and I think most reasonable people would accept it hasn't worked given the lack of recognition for...

Lets go back to Eastern Suburbs

Agreed. But I still think having our name officially Eastern Suburbs (or 'Eastern Sydney' if a compromise really is necessary) makes sense given that people have never accepted us as "Sydney" - just like they never accepted it when half the other Sydney teams tried it in that mad period in the...

Super 18 what does it mean for NRL expansion?

Funnily enough, NZ is probably the most undersaturated territory - a little known fact is that they provide more players to the NRL than all of Queensland, which is quite incredible when you think about it. So if anything I'd argue that long term we ought to be looking at a 22 team competition...

Lets go back to Eastern Suburbs

Central station? Roosters fans don't come from there... it's easier to just bus it to oxford st and walk down the hill :D

Lets go back to Eastern Suburbs

They should never have changed it. Simple as that, as all it ever has done is confuse outsiders and annoy the rusted on fans. So you support maintaining a name switch that was done with faulty logic that did nothing but confuse people, but don't support changing it back in spite of the fact no...

NZ needs a second team - Tony Kemp

NZ Supplies more players to the NRL than Queensland, so I'm sure they could support an extra team. As RoosTah said, from a broader strategic perspective it makes a lot of sense too as it will help the Kiwis at international level by providing more pathways for young league and union players...

    Perth fans fave for expansion

Strangely I never thought of that, but it does seem quite obvious; Wests Tigers becoming Western Tigers shouldn't be that big a deal.

Coogee and Clovelly are not Soufs territory!

Bahaha I forgot about this place to be honest and only reactivated recently after a friend sent me a thread here and I remembered I had an account.

    Perth fans fave for expansion

For strategic reasons Perth and NZ need teams (extra teams in NZ's case). Perth because it's the largest remaining potential market in Australia that the NRL doesn't have a presence in and it has shown potential with the Reds before. NZ because an extra team would give the kiwis a local...

Coogee and Clovelly are not Soufs territory!

Obviously I can't speak for everyone here, but I don't think the rebrand has had any effect on the fan base. That was clearly done to make the club's identity less specific to the Eastern Suburbs, but it has never really had an effect - something that is pretty obvious sitting in the Chook Pen...

LMAO that's just hilarious. But all the same...

Coogee and Clovelly are not Soufs territory!

That makes absolutely no sense. So the Roosters being called "Sydney City" for a brief period means that the Eastern Suburbs are suddenly part of South Sydney? I call bullshit on that. Also, considering South Sydney got kicked out of the comp not long after that, shouldn't that therefore mean...

Coogee and Clovelly are not Soufs territory!

From what I understand the NSWRL board was highly 'sympathetic to Souths in the 50s when the transfer of territories occurred and never properly justified the decision to annex the such a significant portion of the Eastern Suburbs.

Coogee and Clovelly are not Soufs territory!

Kenso, Kingsford and Maroubra I agree, but everything north of Anzac pd is dominated by Easts fans. The ABS defines Randwick City as part of Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, and frankly outside of a very narrow definition on the boundaries of League Juniors territories they're definitively and...

    The 4 Nations 2014 is a Mess

It's not quite the same really. What the League is doing is a promotion/relegation system based on which hemisphere the tournament is based in, so it's funnily enough more like a pommy league system, but with a final thrown on the end of it. In Union it's more static and from what I understand...

    Run to the finals

Match against Melbourne was looking a bit of a worry... dropped the ball something like 6 sets in a row in that second half and couldn't take a f**king kick off! Not a good game for the heart. Thank god for our defence and for being able to capitalise on Melbourne's mistakes (jeez wasn't that BS...

    The 4 Nations 2014 is a Mess

That would be brilliant if it happened. Whilst Wales and Ireland have a lot of potential too, I feel like the French have more history and are just better placed to develop League.

    The 4 Nations 2014 is a Mess

The Stadium in Marseilles is definitely still in use despite the redevelopment. I know what you guys mean about rewarding the core, but I just think that the national team is a great way to introduce the sport to new markets - particularly if they're close to the heartlands like Marseilles is...

    NRL expansion review process

Well, by ironic I really meant in that Sharks are being actively hunted and exterminated in WA. As for Slothfield, I'm glad they don't, but I'd like to see him cry all the same.
