The boom in women's Rugby League and the Union 7s overlap

Maybe they were told that it would be easier to get into the 2021 WRLWC if they formed a team. Rugby 7s is very similar to RL due to the constant back and forth, less stoppages and cardio. I think athletes swap between Rugby 7s and RL more than XV and RL because their best chances of playing in...

Colombia Set to Host 2019 Copa Sudamericana Rugby League

The Latin America's Cup has been running every year since 2016 so it was eating away at a lot of team's finances. To cancel this year is disappointing however it isn't the worst outcome, a bi annual tournament every two years to allow teams to recover and have a year to get ready for the year after.

    World 9s 2019

Event and promotions for this event has been good. I would (as mentioned earlier) would have put a more respectable spread of Pacific and European teams in different pools. The point of international tournaments is to allow players to play teams who they have never played regularly.

    Knights to play Jamaica

The only change I would do for this fixture is make it a full test match. I know why they make teams like England Knights and PM XIII but if the opposition is treating it as a full blown test at least show the game some respect and just call it your nation first team (even though you don't...

    Women's teams announced

8 teams selected for the tournament looks good. Getting a balance of geographical spread and RL power houses is great. Teams like Canada, Brazil and getting France back into the fold is great. PNG and Cook islands are good additions too and the the big 3 rounding out the rest is fair enough...

Should RL 9s get rankings and official Recognition from the RLIF?

Bit of a silly question but should we start rankings for Rugby league 9s nations? I know it sounds silly but although Nines are seen as a development tool for RL, wouldn't it help in encouraging new nations to play in the shortened version of the game knowing they'd get recognised? I look at...

    Women's teams announced

The Brazilian women's team won against Argentina in 2018 in Sau Paulo and featured several former Rugby 7s women's players. With two years of preparation to go a women's team at the world cup will boost Rugby League in the country ten fold

    Where now for Tonga?

Tonga really hit their peak during the 2017 RLWC. That NZ win was memorable and fairly deserved but they were playing against a disorganised team. Their last two games against the Kangaroos and NZ really show they are behind both sides now. Sure they have the most powerful forward pack with...

The 2019 USARL Season has Kicked Off (Believe it or Not)

The difference between the Arrows and wolfpack is arrows play in North America and Against Canadian and USA domestic teams. Wolfpack play in overseas comp where they kind of need to get pro players from overseas to keep sponsors and fans interested. It's great NY, Ottawa and TW are flying the...

Pacific Invitational Match Thread (Fiji v lebanese; PNG v Samoa)

What we learnt from the tests; Lebanon : Need to improve greatly and get both domestic and national team sorted out. Fiji: Great to see a mix of young and experienced team with a lot of Fiji born players in the team. Great to see. Samoa: seem solid and a lot better than last year. Few key...

The 2019 USARL Season has Kicked Off (Believe it or Not)

I heard that the USARL and Canadian domestic league (apart from wolfpack) are struggling due to the MLR. Players instead of playing both union and league are sticking to Union due to the professional teams popping up across North America. Rugby league truely now needs a pro league and more...

Cooks don't have their top team but I reckon they'll be too strong for the rhinos

    PNG KUMULS Squad

That sucks, wonder why storm would make the decision and not his QLD cup team

    PNG KUMULS Squad

PNG have never really had full NRL experience teams. Their Pacific neighbours call on heritage full time pros while PNG mainly call on Hunter and state players. It's funny because Hunter players have gone on to NSW/QLD cup comps or 2nd tier UK comps. The NRL exodus that we were all hoping...

Small-time NRL clubs fake injury list

It honestly comes down to personal drive. Lebanon and Cooks don't play regular RL games unless the NRL or RLIF set it up for them. The other teams have had for quite a while now yearly tournaments set up for them which encourages players to stick with those teams. Nigeria and Jamaica shows how...
