    Peter V'landys - New NRL/ARLC Chairman

The storm are a well liked team in Melbourne and are attended very well when you compare it to other NRL teams, but the culture of AFL attendance means it doesn't look as successful, but that's unfair. Comparisons to the Swans are difficult given they have had an almost 20 year head start on the...

Next TV deal discussion 2028 -

Not necessarily, unless that is deemed to be the best revenue stream modelling for NRL clubs. This is why membership and crowd revenue growth is critical for the code, which would create less reliance on pokies/leagues clubs or private financiers. The biggest AFL clubs generate $25-30m per year...

    2023-2028 next tv deal discussion

Until any deal changes are signed, we can only speak to the current conditions and not rumour, speculation and ‘what-ifs’. The current state suggests a massive gulf between the two deals, a result of NRL management pulling the trigger in haste for the next two years and selling for way unders...

    2023-2028 next tv deal discussion

Being positive about the NRL and wanting the best for the code does not change the reality of the disparity between the NRL TV money and the AFL. Spinning and twisting it within an inch of its life doesn’t change the outcome, which is clear. The NRL management have done a poor job of converting...

    2023-2028 next tv deal discussion

You would be in the right ballpark on the $50m running costs for AFL clubs. But the dividend from the AFL would be less than half of that, and ranges between $10-20m p/a depending on their equalisation calculations. That's similar to the $13m per year the NRL gives clubs to contribute to about...

    2023 Comp Structure

edit: @ryan.a87, you beat me to it! I agree, finishing positions to dictate the draw for the next season 👌 Conferences are not relevant with the amount of teams in the comp. It works in the US where there are 30+ teams. The "Sydney/Non Sydney" conference model sounds incredibly inequitable...

    The Game 2021 Crowd Watch

Not surprised at the price drop in Melb. Whilst crowds for AFL and the Storm here have come back to a degree this year, there's a noticeable drop off (~20% in AFL) on 2019, with issues around ticketing, seating and transportation having an impact, along with the conservatism and crowd...

    The Game 2021 Crowd Watch

Did you consider that there might be some good sales on at the nearby Westfield? Or the live theatre performance of Mamma Mia is the hottest ticket in town? How can Sydney professional sporting teams compete with Sydneysider hearts and minds with such enticing options?

    The Game 2021 Crowd Watch

The AFL game in Ballarat was always scheduled in the Fixture. The game that moved due to the Brisbane lockdown was last Thursdays game where Brisbane played in Melbourne at Marvel instead of the 'Gabba, on only a few days notice. All leagues will have to be very proactive and have plans in...

    Are Melbourne finished?

A solid win against the Bunnies and two close losses, away, to quality teams in Parra and the Panthers is not a bad formline to build from. The ending to those losses could have easily turned out very differently, and the Storm could be 3-0. The reality is its 1-2, but doubt there's too much...

The untold stat is the amount of panties Smithy has got in a twist on LU. He truly is the goat!

    The Game 2021 Crowd Watch

I agree, dying to see footy live, even a crappy warm meat pie doesn't seem so bad. But it may still depend if that appetite is mitigated by the pricing and time scheduling of games or any other influence that has been present in the past, may de-motivate attendance. What has changed outside of...

NRL semi finals, storm to play 2 at suncorp Brisbane

So you get one more home final than the Storm anyway? Lucky you ;) A secondary game against the raiders or knights would still present some advantage. Home state finals help, you would have a lot more local support even with COVID reduced crowds.

NRL semi finals, storm to play 2 at suncorp Brisbane

Really? Isn't it if you finish top two, you both host the Qualifying (First week) Final. If you lose, you are the home team for the Semi final (Second Week) and if you win you go straight to the Preliminary final (Third Week), also a home game?

NRL semi finals, storm to play 2 at suncorp Brisbane

Sarcasm? How is that an advantage? You finish top 2, you get two home finals, the Storm earn that if thats where they finish. If the Panthers are as good in their first final as they have been this season, they won't leave Sydney.
