Perry sidesteps talk of 2007 Knight-mare

As a hard-nosed prop Josh Perry isn't known for his sidestep, except when he's confronted with questions about his departure from Newcastle.
The Manly forward, who flattened Cronulla's Ben Ross in a sickening head clash last Saturday at Brookvale Oval, will this week confront his former club as the Sea Eagles visit Newcastle.
Perry, 27, was one of the victims of Knights coach Brian Smith's player cleanout last season which ended his dream of remaining a one-club player.
"It was a tough year, that's all I will say," said Perry when asked of his final season with the Knights.
But Perry has no regrets.
He's "loving" life in Manly and is determined to cement a spot in the Sea Eagles starting line up.
Perry's moved on from last year's diabolical season and isn't treating his homecoming as a chance to prove a point to former coach Smith.
"I've got no point to prove," said Perry.
"It's in the past, I've got no grudges or anything like that.
"When I was a kid I always thought I would play my time out in Newcastle but in saying that I'm down here now and enjoying it.
"At the time it was a pretty tough call but looking back now (leaving) was definitely the move I needed to do.
"I enjoyed my time in Newcastle but I'm a Manly player now and I'm just ready to go out there and play my game like any other.
"(This) was one game I put in my diary as a game I'd get out there and enjoy. I don't know if it's much different to any other game."
Perry is in fact thriving after joining Manly, a move he made on the advice of former Knight and ex-Manly skipper Ben Kennedy.
He's shed five kilograms from his big frame and is fitter than ever.
In his Sea Eagles debut, aside from the massive hit on Ross, he churned through 108 metres from just five hit ups.
"I'm just enjoying being coached by Dessy (Hasler) and I think my form and fitness is a lot better than last year," said Perry.
"Me and BK had a couple of chats. From the moment he came down here he told me how good it was and how much he enjoyed it and he wasn't wrong."
Perry didn't train with the Sea Eagles squad after suffering mild concussion in the collision with Ross, but expects to resume full training on Wednesday and be ready for Saturday's clash with the Knights.
"I was a bit blurry myself, it was a bit of a shock what happened," said Perry of the clash with Ross.
"I'm alright now. The doc just didn't want me to exert myself too much today."
