I think this game really demonstrates the need for a unified set of rules.

The try ruled knock on by Billy Slater when he was making a tackle. England doesn't have "play at the ball" rules?

Anyways... gg ;-)

Actually I was just reminded of how poor some of the commentary were.

'Going by this performance, I believe the Melbourne Storm are the front-runners of the 2010 competition'.

This comment made despite some awful discipline and next to nothing in attack.

Thanks but i don't think it was that mate, it was something else they seem to play it a lot at english sporting events and i got no idea what it is.

I think I know the one you're referring to. I've heard it at several World Club Challengi.

At least you know you'll hear it again.

Pity Melbourne reverted to the slow stuff in parts, but there was only one ref, and being still the off-season there would've been limited match-fitness. Thought Smith did quite well at Halfback, and Hinchcliffe didn't let anyone down at Hooker either. But we were a damn sight better when Smith went back to hooker - the increased composure was clear to see. Looking forward to seeing Cronk back, and getting some form.

So disapointed with how that game was reffed. It's been so quick in SL this year and then he goes back to how it was controlled last year. Anyway, 3 try saving tackles won the game for the Storm. Well done guys.

I enjoyed a great game between two big physical sides. I thought that the Storm controlled much of the game by having multiple defenders (up to 4) each tackle and it helped them slow the Leeds attack down and give there side a well earned break. Ref called it fairly I believe- he called the motions and players listened. Adam Blair being the main 'culprit' of conceeding penalties but no doubt played a major role of 'the bad guy' despite many other team mates slowing the Leeds ruck play. Glad there is some mongrel in the Storm team! Every team should have one or two.

On attack though, Leeds seemed out of sorts with keeping up with the Storm plays. Leeds defenders were either off the mark, not square or trying to slow the play down (something they obviously do not practice much of) Watkins was twice too casual with grounding the ball. Easily could have been the MOM should he had grounded both balls but I guess we will never know! Leeds were played out of the game as they gave silly penalties (not square on the ruck -Peacock, fumbling balls inclu Lautiti's which led to the final try). GI didn't get much action but I thought Neilson had a tremendous game helping set up his winger.

Once Smith got in the ruck area I thought it was game over for Leeds. Proctor, Blair, Lima and Bromwich led the team well on attack and defence but my hat would go off to Todd Lowrie with his great work rate. He was everywhere on D and Attack- similar to Crocker but without the penalties.

Defence wins games! Tries were the difference today! Hard luck for Sinfield they really missed him and how influential was Bedsy!

Great performance from the Storm taking all things into account, augars well for the upcoming season (not so well for every one else). I thought Dane Neilsen was excellent, he can only improve on that and Chase Stanley may not get his spot back

Hitting the ball with your hand and knocking on in the motion of making a tackle has been considered "playing at the ball" for a while now in the NRL. The video referee made the correct call on that occassion 100%.

Well done to Melbourne, thats 2 Australian teams, that have won the WCC Title twice, Roosters did in 1976 and 2003 against St Helens on both occassions.

3 teams if you count the Broncos win in the crappy SL one in 1997.
